Linking Back to Other Threads

Hi,

I thought I saw something once about linking to an existing thread.

What I mean is that if you have a deep thread (A, level 15) is there a way to have one of your options join up with another thread (B, level 3)?

I know there would be some danger in creating endless loops, but if handled with care, I think it would allow our stories to grow "deeper."

Is there a way to do this?

Easy peasy dude, though its been a while since I've done it.

go to a finished thread thats yours that you want to link to another thread.

Down the bottom will be some options, choose link thread.

Takes you to story map, choose the thread you want the other thread to link to.

next screen, press link threads...its done! :nana:

In order to do this, though, the editor must have turned on Links in the story config.

Okay this just a new thought might there ever be a way to link diffirent stories. I know not now, but I guess what I am asking is would it be possible in considering the program used to make the stories?

lol, that could create some real twilight zone moments, one moment your perving on your busty mature neighbour, the next your being raped up the butt by robots from the year 2121! :p

You been reading the Tesseract? :p

The only problem when linking threads that if link two threads to the same thread. If you hit previous it takes you back to the previous point from the first link, which isn't neccesarily the path you took. This occurs in the story Truth Or Dare.

Let me look into it. I've fixed one of those before, I think. Which thread?

I have a related question.

Say my intro is:

1 Start
You are on a long, moonlit road. There is a mansion at the top of the hill, and an old shack a little way off the path.
Options:
*Head for the mansion
*Check out the shack

Obviously, this text is just for illustrative purposes. Anyway, next thread is:

1A Head for the mansion
You are in a large hall. There are large double doors in front of you, and smaller doors to your left and right.
Options:
*Double doors
*Left
*Right

Okay, back to the shack:

1B Check out the shack
You are in a small shack. There is a zombie here.

Now my question. Apparently I can link the shack thread to the mansion one, so that one of your options from 1B takes you to 1A. However, can I rename the option to, say, 'flee for your life', or will it automatically be called 'head for the mansion'? Would I have to put a 'buffer' in between?

Thanks for your help.

No, you will need to put in a buffer thread if you want to change the name of the adjoining thread. This is usually useful as you can then add little bits of information between threads to ensure consistency.

Linking threads is VERY useful though. I use it a lot to bring different options together on one convergent point further into the story. I love this because I hate it when I take a side option in a story, go a couple of threads in and meet a dead end, which means I have to backtrack and take the option that I didn't want to take in the first place!

When you link a thread, it gives you the option to rename what the link is titled.
