It is a great site for generating business contacts. If you know how to use the "advanced" option there are great opportunities for finding contacts in areas that you may be interested in and - are in close proximity to you.

I am reading a book by Michael Lewis ("Flash Boys") where intrepid investigators figured out what banks were doing with specific technologies solely by trolling Linkedin.
Corporate secrets that could never be obtained by asking banks were right out there on resumes posted on Linkedin. "4 years developing HFT internal systems using XYZ protocol under X.57 dynamic switching".

I have found LinkedIn useful to categorize my contacts when people ask me for professional niche referrals. I've never gotten business through it, as my business is based on more personal contacts.
Oh, and I've gotten laid via LinkedIn once. Bonus.

I had to delete the blackberry app because I kept getting a 'single Muslim women' ad. Worst part is their not allowed to marry outside of islam, so they're obviously bluffing.
