NYPD detailed to Homeland Security
Michael was just finishing his shift. He had been detailed to the 9/11 memorial for the last couple of months. It wasn't a busy detail, but it was one he took seriously. He needed to make sure that nobody did anything to harm the memorial to those who died on 9/11/2001. He had been a sniper with NYPD SWAT before being detailed to Homeland Security.
After changing, Michael decided to stop for a drink before heading home. He went to a cop bar and walked in. He immediately saw a couple of guys he used to work with. They started giving him grief about being so special since he was detailed. He laughed it off and ordered a drink from the waitress.
He caught up with what was going on with them, and they asked him about his detail to DHS. He turned and looked around the bar. That was when he saw her. He did a double take. Was that really her? What was Mina doing in NYC?
He watched as she made eye contact with him and then started to walk in his direction. She was the last person that he expected to see, especially here. Although they got along very well while she was in town, Mina didn't really endear herself to many of the other guys. The reason they didn't like her was that they were threatened by her. She was a strong women, both physically, intellectually and emotionally.
"Hello Mina. What a surprise to see you here." He looked her over. "I would be happy to buy you a drink." He pointed to an empty sot at the bar and followed her. His eyes went immediately to her firm, round ass. It looked as good as he remembered it.
He ordered her a Jack and coke and he ordered himself a shot of tequila and a beer. After the drinks were delivered, he turned to her. "So, what brings you back to my neck of the woods? After the way you left, I never expected to see you back here. Of course, we just happened to bump into each other, so, I know you didn't come back here for me."
"Mina... remember who you are talking with. I know you didn't come all this way just to talk to someone. What else I know is that if you came all this way it is personal. Whatever this guy did, it is personal to you." He stared into her eyes. He knew her well enough to know that what he said was true.
"Something else I know is that if you are going out again tonight to look for him that you have not told anyone at NYPD that you are here. I am sure that you know the proper procedure, and I am sure that your boss told you to check in. Why haven't you?"
He downed his shot and ordered another as he drank his beer and waited for her response. He knew that she would try to be deceptive, but he also knew that he would be able to see through her deception. "You could have let me know you were coming at least. You know that you need back up in this city. I don't know if you have anyone else that will watch your back."
Michael listened to Mina. He knew half of what she was saying was bullshit. Anyone else might believe her, but he knew better. There was no way she arrived lat, because if she had, she wouldn’t be in the bar.... she would be out looking for the guy. He knew the reason she hadn’t checked in was to give herself an opportunity to do some recon before the Chief put a tail on her.
“Well Mina.... good luck in your search. I hope you don’t do anything stupid. You know that I know how you work, and I don’t think that the person you are looking for has any interest in having a conversation with. Just be careful.”
He called the bartender over and paid his tab. He saw the eyes on him. He knew that some were looking at him because Mina was so attractive. The others were looking at him because they knew of his past with Mina.
He paid his tab, finished his drink and turned to leave. “Do yourself a favor.... have someone go with you when you look for him. If he is up here hiding out the chances are that he is not alone. Take care Mina. Be safe.”
Michael exited the bar and headed home. The whole ride home, his mind was on Mina. He worried about what she was doing.... or planning to do. Once home he showered and climbed into bed. He laid there looking at the ceiling... wishing he hadn’t stopped for that drink.
Sleep did not come easy for Michael. He laid in bed staring at the ceiling. He knew that Mina had no intention of having anyone back her up when she went looking for whoever it was that she wanted to find. He had only known her for a short time, but he knew her well enough.
When the sun came up, Michael decided to go for a run instead of laying wide awake in his bed. If he went now, he would avoid all of the people heading to work and wouldn't have to worry about all of the traffic from the people coming into New York from Jersey.
The run didn't get Mina off his mind. He wasn't sure why he was thinking about her. Yes they had spent some time together, but that was over. Once he finished his run, he showered, ate breakfast, and got ready for work.
Sitting at his locker getting dressed, Michael looked up to see the SWAT Lieutenant standing in front of him. The LT asked if he knew why Mina was in town, and if he did, why he hadn't reported it to anyone. "Boss, I ran into her at the Siren last night. She said she just got into town and was going to report in first thing this morning. She didn't say why she was here."
The Lieutenant did not seem to be buying his story, which was ironic since he bought a lot of his other BS stories, and now he wasn't buying the story that was true. He was told to report to the Captain's office immediately. When he arrived there, he was told that he was to be with Mina until she got on her plane to go home. He protested, but he knew it was no use.
Michael was in uniform. He intended to complete his assigned task and report back to the 9/11 Memorial as soon as he saw the plane take off. He spoke to the patrol officer at the door for a moment and asked if there was anyone inside with Mina. When he was told there wasn't, he brushed past him and found Mina on the bed. He was surprised she was still here.
"Okay Mina. Get yourself together and let's go. I have to get you to the airport and see you onto the plane. Your chief has paid for the airfare. I am sure he is happy about the phone conversation he had with our chief." He motioned for her to get up.
"I am not going to put you in cuffs as was suggested by my CO, but I would not confuse that kindness for weakness. Don't fuck with me and we will be fine. Get on the plane and go home." He looked right into her eyes as he talked to her. He didn't want her messing with this and getting him jammed up.
Michael drove out of the parking garage and headed for the airport. As usual, traffic was awful. He felt like turning on the siren and the grill lights to get this task over and done with. He knew that the longer it took him to get Mina to the airport, the more opportunities she had to turn things sideways for him.
They drove in silence. Rather, they sat in silence with the crawling traffic. At this rate, there was no way they made it to the airport in time to get her on the plane. He took out his cell phone and called the Lieutenant to tell him of the traffic issues. "I don't know why they had to put her on the early flight, but I doubt we are going to make it."
He hung up after the LT said he would get back to him. Michael wasn't happy. He turned to Mina. The only reason you are sorry is because you got caught. You had every opportunity to do it the right way, but you chose to go rogue, which is typical of you, and now, I am mixed up in your affairs..... again."
He knew that she was going to make a run for it, and he was not going to let her ruin his career. He exited the car and left it blocking the street as he pursued Mina into the subway. Yes, she was going to try to lose him in the crowded subway station. No, he wasn't going to let it happen.
He didn't call out to her as she fled. He did not want to call attention to himself, nor did he want to give Mina any indication of where he was. He knew she would be focusing on where she was going and not looking back. By not calling out to her, she would not know just where he was.
He followed her through the station, weaving in and out of the mass of people. He noticed the train approaching the station and he was convinced she was going to make a mad dash onto the train. He took a calculated risk, and jumped on the train when the doors opened.
He moved through the cars, continuing to keep his eyes on Mina. When he saw her get on the next car, he knew he made the right decision. When the doors closed and the train began to move, he moved onto the car she was on.
She was standing with her back to him. He waited until they were pulling into the next station and moved in behind her, grabbed her wrist and clamped it onto her wrist.... putting the other on his wrist. "Nice try Mina. Now, get off the fucking train."
Michael heard Mina call hi an asshole, but it didn't faze him. He had worked hard to get where he was and he was not going to let her antics screw everything up for him. As a result of her dash from his car, there was no way that she was going to be able to make her flight, so, Michael took her back to headquarters to see what the CO wanted to do.
Walking into the headquarters with Mina in handcuffs resulted in a lot of inquisitive looks being shot in their direction. He heard the Lieutenant call him to his office. Before going to his office, he handcuffed Mina to his desk. He looked at her and smiled. "be good while I am gone."
Entering the LT's office, Michael could tell that he was not happy. Michael had to listen to a 10 minute diatribe about him not getting Mina on the flight. He knew there was no reason for him to try to defend anything, so, he just stood there and took it.
What happened next, however totally shocked him. The Lieutenant told him that he had to get Mina on her flight tomorrow... same time as today's flight, and that he was responsible for her until she was on the plane. "But... can't we just lock her in a holding cell." The LT smiled and shook his head and told him to have a nice day and make sure she got on that plane tomorrow.
MIchael walked out of the office and sat down at his desk. He looked at Mina. "Thanks a fucking lot." He started to try to figure out how he was going to pull this off.
Michael sat quietly at his desk for a while trying to figure out what to do next. He really didn’t feel like babysitting Mina, because he knew how good she was and that he would have to be on top of his game the whole time.
It was a obvious that Command didn’t trust Mina, either. They had Michael assigned to her for a reason. They really wanted her out of town. The real question was.... why? Why was it so important to get her on that plane so quickly?
He looked at Mina. “You and I will be spending some time together for the next 24 hours or so.” He paused and looked around. Then, he whispered, “ during that time you are going to tell me everything about why you are here and I will try to figure out why it is so important for them to get you out of town so fast.” Standing up, he uncuffed her. “Let’s go.”
