Okay so this is my official discussion thread, to talk about this story and such. If anyone wants to comment, feel free.

Here is a link to the story!

A New Dawn

My first question for everyone is should I change the title?

There is another story called "A New Dawn" which is a buffy fanfic- should I change my title to something different to avoid confusion?

Second question, followup of first. what should that title be?

Okay, discussion...BEGIN!

Dear Chiclet,

I just tried to sudmit a thread to you, however while it was submitting I think the site went down. I can't get into my home section to see if it is awaiting approval or not. I always write in MS word so I have the section saved if there has been a problem anyway. Let me know if there has been a problem. How you like the thread anyway.

As for the stories title, I believe a change could be in order so as to prevent any confusion. Couple of suggestions, I'm sure others can come up with better :-

A New Dawning (Only slightly different)
Dawn Awakening
Dawn Of A New Day
Dawn OF Changing Times

Come to think of it they are all pretty bad. Oh well!

25

"A New Dawn" has already reached 25 threads. Is this good, average, not so hot? The rating is at 4.71 but only 7 votes. This disapoints me.

Voting: Does anyone else have the problem that loading a vote is taking forever? It is very hard to vote on a story when you can't do ANYTHING other than wait for it.

I think the problem of voting is the same for everyone. If I vote for a thread I end up waiting longer for the vote to process than it took to read the story.

I guess that would be the reason so few people bother voting, after a couple of votes people quite naturally say "Fuck this voting, I'll be here all week at this rate."

Voting

I think the slow voting process skews the rating as well. I have tendency to only vote for stories that I though were great, or stories that were horrible. This means a lot of 1's and 5's without the average to good stories getting rated.

I think the whole tracking of ratings on the system is out of kilter. If you look at the ratings for January some stories that do not have that many threads in them have over fifty votes. One story already has over 100!!

Given the time it takes to vote that does not seem possible.

I haven given up even looking at the ratings. I just write on stories that catch my attention and have fun.

:D

That thing with the huge number of votes already happens at the start of every month for some strange reason

25 threads already is very well done. You've either kept yourself very busy or attracted a lot of helpful people.

I do much the same with voting. I'll be bothered to vote if I really loved something and give it a five. I then continue onwards rating as I keep reading the story. If my votes drop I havnt liked how the story flowed from an excellent passage and its an indication to the writter of good idea going wrong.

hrm...

on lit they have lots of voting fraud. is probably similar to why some stories get hundreds of votes while others get none.

i'm on dial up currently; I'm expecting that when I get cable it'll go faster.

(look for votes on your stories in the near future!)
