I'm considering joining a lifetime fitness gym, but there's just one little problem. I'm no longer a guy, but I'm still not quite a girl. Can anyone with a membership give me a bit of advice on what to do?

First, the membership card. Do they check an ID before issuing one? I can sort of pass either way, but I already make a much better girl. It would be best to use my new name. Registering as a male wouldn't be a problem except for one thing: swimming.

Pools are the one place I can't claim ambiguity. My breasts are now impossible to hide in a bathing suit. Finally this brings me to the last situation: locker rooms.

They claim to have family locker rooms, but fail to explain anything about them. It sounds like a good solution, as long as I don't get weird looks for going in alone.

And ideas?

Bathrooms I say you use the one for the gender you are presenting. But since here we are talking locker room, possible nudity (yours and others) this is a tough one.

I think you need to bite the bullet, and explain your situation to the management. Family bathrooms are USUALLY single use ones, if so then you need explain nothing to anyone, aid ask for (maybe tour of) those facilities before you need get into ts issues with the management.

If you feel pretty darn confident you could just as you natal gender, you'll get looks but gynomastia is not unheard of in males.

I have worked out for a long time now. I am not a member of Lifetime but have worked in gyms before. My advice would be to not use the locker rooms at all. I have come to the point now where I don't even bring anything to the gym except for membership card, water and a towel. You can always shower at home. I just go in and out do my workout and go home. I try to go late at night or after work, this way I don't need to shower and go to work.

No matter how hard they try to convince you otherwise, the gyms are a petry dish. I can tell you stories about the sauna, steam room and pool that will make you never again go near the pool.

This way you avoid dealing with your issue and don't have to disclose anything to the gym workers.
Good luck

The only reason I would ever go in the locker room is to change for swimming. Everything I've read says they have a great pool setup, and I'd like to take advantage of it. I've had a natural fear/disgust of locker rooms for years, so I would just run in, remove my outer clothes with a swimsuit underneath, and run out, trying not to breath through my nose the whole time. I never use public bathrooms for the same reason of disgust, so no problems there.

There's no chance of me passing as a guy in a swimsuit. Gynecomastia isn't a good excuse for a tall rail thin guy, especially when they're perky and fully formed A cups.

Basically it all comes down to whether they check ID when registering. I'm sure I can find some way to deal with the locker rooms, as long as my membership card doesn't belie my appearance.

Then all I'll have to worry about is someone recognizing me there...

I hate locker rooms too! When I was in high school I developed a knack for changing without anybody seeing anything. Are you able to use a gaff while swimming, perhaps a hi-cut one? And then just be female, so your breasts won't be strange? Also, I am very uncomfortable with my body, but I used to swim too - I just figured that once I got in the water, it was hard to see many details. :)

I urge you to caution when considering a gym membership. They are usually very expensive, and contain lock-in contracts for 24 or even 36 months. Ask yourself whether you can be certain you'll still be attending in 36 months time. You don't wanna waste your money. I just go jogging- it's a hell of a lot cheaper.

Um... maybe I'm completely missing the point...

But isn't it against the motherfucking-snakes-on-this-motherfucking-plane LAW for them to descriminate against you?

What I'm saying is, just be upfront... and if they're assholes then burn them into the ground. If I'm being naive, feel free to explain why - and good luck.

I'm not sure what a gaff is. My swimsuit plan is a one piece, along with either swim shorts or a skirt. Or maybe a tank top and shorts. Many possibilities. I can pass just fine, so it all comes down to the ID.

Don't worry about money. Insurance covers some of it, and I'm not the one paying anyway. The whole point of the gym is I'll have a friend and sister to go with for motivation, else I'd never get around to doing anything. They'll also have professionals to help me design an exercise and nutrition routine. I need help because unlike the rest of the country, I very much need to gain weight, not lose.

The laws are sadly incomplete and don't always offer protection. Most likely they would try to force me to use the men's facilities, something which is definitely not wise with the way I look, especially in a swimsuit. Besides, it's more to my advantage than theirs not to make a scene. I'd much rather no one know.

I'm not ready for that yet. I'm still going to school as a guy, and I haven't even fully decided on a name yet. Not to mention the relatives I still haven't told.

It's so hard living a double life. I don't fit in either way anymore...
