She drives home. She’s tired. It’s been a long day. But no matter to that, they all are. She knows that. She smiles as she walks into her little house. It’s theirs, as little as small as it might be, but it’s on the water. A small price to pay. She unbuttons her shirt as she makes her way to the blinking light on the answering machine. She hears his voice, it’s up beat. He must be with others. He says he’ll be home soon. She busies her self with other things. Cleaning. Reading mail. Relaxing for a brief moment. And then she hears his car, her nervous peak a little. She goes outside. Nervous and yet, after all these years, still excited. And with one look from him she remembers. It’s all over. He looks at her, with eyes that hold no grace. Words shout out, yet unspoken. And she remembers, he hates her. Cold, steely stare. A man who won’t let her go. A man who doesn’t want her. Who never did. He just wants what others do. His trophy.
