The line seemed bitter during Princess Bride, at the moment it seemed like pure truth. Maggie had a crappy childhood, complete with a bitter divorce between her parents, an evil stepmother, stepbrothers who made puberty even more hellish. She finally reached adulthood and after a string of bad relationships and her brothers going through marriage and divorce, she wondered if it was worth it.
Then there was Wade, a nearly perfect match. His ex wife was a piece of work, their son was her third son with just as many fathers. Which is why he had a vasectomy and was emotionally closed off. It had been fun though, and despite their trust issues they finally let down their guards and fell in love.
In the end, it wasn't enough, when his house sold and his divorce finalized, he asked her to move in with him. Maggie decided that wasn't the life she wanted. She wanted more than to be his lover/room mate, and despite all they shared she doubted he'd ever want to build a family with her.
It took her a while to completely accept her decision and after a year, she had given up hope of ever having 'Happily Ever After.' She was finally in a position to build her own happily ever after. She considered adopting, but as a single 30 something, it was unlikely for her to have a chance at a baby. So she opted another route, especially with so many people having trouble with having kids with exes, she wanted to go the anonymous route. There was one stumbling block left to go, her doctor had strongly suggested she drop 40 to 60 pounds before attempting artificial insemination.
Her family either didn't know/didn't care/didn't believe she would go through with it. So here she was, in the women's locker room, she hated dieting and knew most of her family would sabotage any such attempts. Her entire body hurt and she took a quick shower, rinsing off the sweat. She slipped her swim suit on and wrapped a towel around her body and headed for the hot tub. She hoped that this late at night it would be deserted.
