The term which was made up by a staffer at the Democrat National Committee and fed to the mainstream media, has been throughly appropriated by the opponents of the mainstream media and the liberal establishment.
They know the term is now counterproductive as the public associates it with the mainstream media, not its opponents. The term is a liability for them.
So, now they appear to be trying to latch onto the term alternative facts which the DNC thinks can still be used to its advantage. The word was sent around to the liberal fringe posters on the internet to keep using this term but drop the term fake news.
The question is, will it work? If fake news completely backfired, won't the term alternative facts also backfire on them? Of course part of the reason, apparently, is to try to destroy or mock Kellyanne Conway. If they can't destroy Trump directly, the emphasis will go to any visible figure representing him.
Will the new term last, and will it make people forget the term fake news? I think its not catchy enough, nor makes enough impact on the average person to have a lasting impact. The liberal circle jerk on the internet will "get it" but the average will be like "WTF." In three to six months, I don't believe we will still be hearing this term. There will ongoing attempts to come up with a new term, but this term is too long winded, its origin its not widely known enough by the general public and is not catchy enough.
A year from now, the public will still understand the term fake news and associate it with the MSM, but alternative facts will probably be long gone from widespread use. Another failure in their attempts to destroy Trump using traditional methods of verbal insults and half sentence repetitive slanders.
