They do better when they run with public opinion than when they swim against it.

In the 90s, Clinton knew what buttons to push to win over the majority at the time. He moved to the center to respond to the rightward drift of public opinion during the Reagan-Bush years.

In 2008 and 2012, the Democrats used the "anti-rich" and anti-corporate bullshit (which they didn't actually mean since top Dems are uber rich themselves of course). It resonated with the public at the time though and made the majority party especially among the youth who grew up during the Great Recession.

Now, they are pushing gun control and siding with Islamics while they are slaughtering Americans (at least there's a perception of that among the majority of the public). They are promoting even more immigration when majorities have never supported high immigration rates (illegal or legal). On more and more issues they are swimming against the tide of public opinion.

This is not a good strategy to win elections. At least emphasize winner issues.

Since they always offer unsolicited advice to Republicans and other opponents, I thought I would return the favor. :)

I am soooo looking forward to the day after Hillary becomes POTUS. The glorious whining and crying from the right will be like music to my ears. :D

We do get a choice. Most people decide they don't want to exercise it. They vote for the person they recognize. I really don't believe most Americans pay as much attention to politicians as you do.

If you have ever seen "man on the street" most people are busy living their own lives and couldn't care less about who wins. Politics has succeeded in becoming the corrupt, game playing job where only the vile play and it keeps average Americans away. Works out perfectly to keep the status quo.

Don't confuse not having a choice with not exercising your choice.

I have voted in every election save one mid-term since 1968. My choices don't always win because the "Man in the Street" is so clueless.

The reason I pay attention to politics is after LBJ sent me to Viet Nam to 'Save Democracy" I realized the Politicians lie and serve their Masters not the People.

If "None of the the Above" were on the primary ballot, how many of our professional Politicians would be 'in the private sector?'

A vote for none of the above is the same functionally as throwing your vote away on a third party. Except worse because at least if the Green Party got 10% of the vote we'd know what Americans want MORE of instead of watching us stomp our feet like petulant children. Granted that's what we ARE but that's another story.

Of course the Clinton slop left the country in the best condition it had been in decades. It's a little like holding up two Batman posters and saying "Same Christopher Nolan crap or Same Joel Shuemaker crap".

People don't care because it makes little difference and no many of us don't realistically have a choice because of how the system works.

None. We still recognize the need for gov't and voting for "none" doesn't accomplish anything. It's a feel good vote only. It would be chaos if no one was around to run the country, not to mention the danger to all of us.

For the President and VP our votes don't really count anyway. The electoral college decides our President.

"There is no Constitutional provision or Federal law that requires Electors to vote according to the results of the popular vote in their States. Some States, however, require Electors to cast their votes according to the popular vote. These pledges fall into two categories—Electors bound by State law and those bound by pledges to political parties."

I'm not saying we are rats in a maze (yes, I am) but...
Bright side-better than hamster in a wheel!
:D

You missed my qualification that 'NOTA' be on the primary ballot thus it would make the parties put forth more acceptable candidates, hopefully.

I started with your response to me and I felt tingles as my inner dialogue started
"Whoa! Are we actually going to agree on something?? Is he sober to...oh oh...wait...ya...no". Then I moved on to your response to Jack.

The tingles could have been a mild stroke. I am not ruling it out.

Instead of worrying about minor health issues, I decided to change my perception of you. I have come to the conclusion that you are a troll. Much more insidious because your half a brain actually believes what comes out of your mouth. You don't just drink your own kool-aid, you drown yourself in it.

It was difficult to spot since your words sometimes formed sentences that followed the rules of logic, you conved a sense of passionate conviction when you respond and your stubborness rivals that of any dog with a bone. The tip off was that you don't have any of that ironic humor missing in human trolls. My conclusion is that you are now a pod person troll.

I am smiling since I can disregard everything you say as pretend talk.

It's okay sweethart. When your maturity catches up to your ages you'll be half way to me.

There is a write in spot or people can just skip, but with around 40% of eligible voters already choosing none, an extra option wouldn't make any difference. Really what would make a difference is if someone like a Ross Perot that had a very grass roots campaign ran as the "none of the above" candidate. He wouldn't need to be front and center, just an option for people that believed the status quo wasn't good enough.

I think thy key is to get people out of this mindset of voting against someone and give us someone to vote for.

EDIT: Aha! Lightbulb just clicked. Hmmm. I don't have a response to that. Someone with much more knowledge about voting should respond. That is a bit interesting though.

I can only wake up on one side of my bed. I put against the wall to eliminate the random factor. :D

I have the wall side too! My dogs crowd me no matter where I am, bed, couch, floor...doesn't matter so the wall at least means I don't get pushed off completely!

My cat is just mean, she doesn't like it if I don't let her in. She doesn't even want to sleep near me. Just wants to be able to get me if a food or water dish is empty or god forbid some other door ends up shut.

I like threads with "liberal" and "stupid". They're as useless as art should be. Though a bit predictable.

10% seems to be a lot. The German Greens need about 20 years to climb from 5% to over 10% in the Bundestag. At the moment they get their 10%, they became a little boring, and their leaders switched from wool pullover and sneakers to suit.

I was pulling numbers out of my ass to be honest. My point was that a vote for none of the above doesn't tell the politicians what they SHOULD do it just tells them we're pissy. A vote that says we want you to be more like this or that gives them direction. I think one thing that people forget or pretend they don't realize is that our politicians are a reflection of us. Not perfect mind you but the ones chosen are chosen because they poll well and focus groups and all that bullshit. We need to talk to the man in the mirror if we're that upset about what's placed before us.
