LFS: Post Apocalyptic (maybe?) - very few details...

Hi all. What I can recall the most is that the story starts with a man that is using a building as shelter in a possibly/probably post-apocalyptic world. He's a loner, and has some kind of warning system or trap on the door to his shelter (possibly a shotgun aimed at the door), which is in a town or city. He saves or rescues a young woman who ends up moving in with him (pretty sure). He has a pretty powerful rifle (I think). There may or may not be be some mutant animals involved. I'm pretty sure the story starts with something happening at an intersection near his hideout. I think they use bicycles to get around the city/town. He may go with the girl back to where she used to live to get her belongings. Any help finding this story would be much appreciated! Thanks!
