Hi all. I believe this story was written by a popular author who has written more than one top story. The author's note explained that the story was purposely "over the top" as far as being unrealistic.
What I recall (some details may be incorrect):
Senior year of High School. A "new guy in town" becomes the star quarterback of the football team. They win a big game. After the football game a car crashes into a lake (or other body of water nearby). The Hero dives in and saves the (baby?) stuck in the car. The "love interest" (main female protagonist) also jumped in the water. They start dating. He meets the little sister who gets a crush on him.
I can't recall much more other than the Hero, his girlfriend and her mother (possibly the little sister also) going to some kind of public award ceremony (or perhaps it was a dance?) where there was an awkward moment in the dressing rooms.
I do not recall it being filled with sex scenes.
