Does anyone have experience posting in the Letters and Transcripts category? I’m working on a story told entirely as a journal kept by the main character. If the category were based on the story content and the sex, the only option would be Erotic Couplings. For me, that would consign the story to oblivion.
Taken literally, and based on the site’s description of the category, L&T would accept either an exchange of written passages among two or more people, or a recording of written or spoken statements, compiled by a neutral observer. Would this exclude a handwritten account by one person, intended never to be read by anyone else?
In practical terms, the content would read much the same as a first-person narration of past experiences...except that the journal itself might take on mcguffin status. The story doesn’t have a real plot yet, with anything like a conclusion. In what I’ve currently thrown at the wall, however, the main character (in a discussion of boundaries with a potential partner in whoopee) mentions that she’s keeping a handwritten journal, and asks if he wants to be kept out of it. He says it doesn’t matter to him, but she later suspects that his awareness of it is advancing from the back of his mind. I don’t yet know if hilarity, or anything else, would ensue. So far, though, what I’ve written includes a good sex scene. That should never go to waste.
I posted in L&T once. It was the fourth part of a five-part series, with the other parts in other categories. (It made sense to me at the time.) For some reason, about six months after publication, the site folks moved it from L&T to Romance (the same category as the fifth part, but not the first three). This may have been because, in addition to verbatim inclusion of the characters’ correspondence, there was some brief narrative about the characters as they wrote, read, and Did Other Things. But, six months?
