Let's talk Ryder Cup, shall we?

Good to see that the American "stars" can play the game after all.

I'm happy (ish) we only need 3 1/2 points - and I can see those points now!
Oh dearest Wanderer, you need only three points to retain. We need the 14 1/2.

I know but with 14 1/2 we win - I wouldn't want to just retain! It would be almost as bad as losing but I can't imagine how that might feel!

You can't? Are you having trouble with memory? Does the "The Country Club" in Brookline spark any synapses in your brain? ;) I know I'm younger then you but surely you can remember that!!!

That was a great match between Love and Clark. Excellent sportsmanship shown by both.

The inevitable has happened.

Congratulations to the European team on a very well-played competition.

Congratulations Team Europe, excellent play and team spirit. See you in 2006 at the K Club, Co. Kildare, Ireland.

A special congratulations to Monty, well done under difficult circumstances.

But it's our language to butcher.

To answer your question its a song sung usually at football (soccer) matches when someone wins a cup. A bit like us (Europe) winning the Ryder Cup.:D

OLE, OLE, OLE, OLE, OOOOOLE, OOOOOOLE.....CHAMPIONAIS, CHAMPIONAIS......EUROPE, EUROPE, EUROPE

Oh....hello everyone, did i mention that we won, by 9 whole big fat juicy lovely points. That was just a win, that was a rout! We only lost one session.

But one commends the americans for putting on a good show, just next time it would be nice if we had some opposition!

Well done to Monty, it had to be him really who sank the important putt. But can one just say how much of a gentleman Davis Love III is, gone up in my estimation, his match with Clarke was one of the highlights.

Well done. It was quite a drubbing. In the end, I simply turned off the television, unable to bear it. My guess is that approximately 3,476,892 words will be written on the subject, "Why do we keep losing the Ryder Cup?" over the next month or so in various golf publications in this country.

My analysis is simple. At this level of play, there is so little difference between the #1 and #100 player in the world rankings in practical terms that any set of 12 players for each team should be considered equals. After all, this is match play and not stroke play. Over a 72-hole tournament those very slight differences will show up more clearly. In match play, any of these players can shoot a low number on any one hole. And that's all that matters. In practical terms, all that matters is the ability to make birdie or par when your opponent shoots a higher number on the same hole. And then to do it with regularity. World rankings don't mean a thing in this format.

To all who posted here and added to this enjoyable discussion, thanks for the fun. I want to commend our cousins from the UK for their occasional restraint and constant sportsmanship.

It was fun. Perhaps we can do this again in two years, though I'm sure a few of us would like to see a much more competitive event. And I know a few of us would like to see a complete reversal of fortunes next time around. :D

Kisso thanks for starting this thread, as you say it was fun.

I for one am hoping to be at the K Club in 2006, I am actually off to Ireland on October 2 to play golf and also to watch The American Express Championship on the final day at Mount Juliet.

Thank you to you (and Cate) for being worthy sparring partners. I agree with your theory about the top 100 players by the way.

One seconds what wanderer said, excellent thread Kisso, it been fun with you and Cate.

One applauds you for commenting on our sportsmanship, but speaking for myself, one believes that one may have failed in showing restraint. Sorry! ;)

Until 2006....year of the threepeat!

I agree with you gentlemen, this was great fun, even if frustrating. It made no sense to me to see so many putts left short in a match play competition ~ it was driving me nuts.

Until 2006 at The K Club, congratulations Team Europe, that cup is making the journey back across the pond in two years time.

Thanks for the smiles and fun.

Threepeat? In your dreams. :D
