Let's hope

i lettered in shooting squirrels. it was extracurricular. most schools have a zero tolerance gun policy.

they hauled a kid off here for having a hatchet in his trunk.

I lettered in pot smoking. I also won the ping pong tournament in high school two years in a row.

Whadya think about that!

It would have been particularly impressive if you were high at the time you actually won the tournament.

Otherwise, not so much.

We had archery in high school but nothing past a rudimentary two week or so session. There's a local range I'd like to try sometime.

At my school in Australia many decades ago, we had civilian pistol, rifle and shotgun teams.

All the 'civilians' were, or had been, in the cadet force because membership was compulsory. Successfully completing the cadet course service reduced required time in national military service.

The school's cadet force had competitions for rifle marksmanship, and trained the cadets with other hardware such as crew-served machine guns and field artillery.

Dear Lord.

Only in America would a spate of high school shootings lead to a spike in buying guns. Because, clearly, guns will stop the bloodshed.

The military wanted people that washed out the cadets course for longer???

The cadets were assumed to have already completed the 3 months basic training. 'Efficient' cadets quickly became corporals and sergeants during their National Service.

Some of my class mates went to Vietnam with the Australian forces.

Joel Chandler Harris told a wonderful story of our Revolution. Its true.

Around Augusta Georgia all the men fled the British, and the women were in their homes alone, without protection. On one occasion a squad of Brit cavalry stopped at a home where they demanded food and demanded that the woman's children clean their firearms as they ate.

The woman fed the men and her boys cleaned and loaded the pistols. She then shot each unarmed Brit with the pistols.

Each nation gets the founding myths it deserves. Shooting unarmed men appears to be America's.

Its fear of loss.

Anytime there is an incident, people who own guns know anti gun people will start making noise and they get nervous and...buy more guns and ammo.

A friend of mine works at a company here in RI that makes gun parts. After the CT shooting he was working 70 hours a week and they added a second shift for two months to fill orders.

And call it the cynic in me, but I believe the Government knows this and only acts like they might do something just to spur this on....after all sales of anything is good for the economy

They were only unarmed because they were stupid enough to surrender their weapons to the enemy because sexist shit for brains, and if the story true they are deserving of their fate for being such terrible soldiers.

As far as OP goes right on...I think it's better than trying to keep the shit in the dark.

At the very least gun safety/handling classes should be required schoolin' in this country.

I know that makes the anti gun hysterical types roll their eyes but they are fucking morons and hypocrites to say otherwise.

I learned to plonk hares and pheasants as an extra curricular in high school. I could have graduated to deer and even moose, but I got bored and switched to a film workshop instead.
