Let's Get This Chain On!

Okay...Here's the scoop: We've got 15 authors, one of which will write a portion of this chain every week. This chain story is centered around the lady on the front page of the site, who we have yet to name (more on that later).

Killer Muffin has graciously decided to go first. She will have her beginning chapter to me on May 1st, and I will post it on May 2nd. The next person in line will read her chapter, and write a chapter going off what she has written. They will submit their portion via the scripts (choose "Chain Story" as the category) on May 8th, and I will post it on May 9th. And so on, until the Final Chapter.

I have chosen the order randomly, with respect to all schedule considerations. If you don't like where you've been placed and would rather do, say, Chapter 4 instead of Chapter 7, you are more than welcome to write the author who's been assigned Chapter 4 and negotiate a trade. Please let me know if you do change positions.

Okay, before I start hacking away at this, do we have a suggested basis for a plot of some sort? Or should we simply carry on as if this were a diary of her sexual exploits? Perhaps we could tell this as a collected story of the people she's done her sexual exploits with, that way the different "voices" of the various authors don't jar with the story itself.

Suggestion: Call the thing Memoirs of a Lady.

Suggestion: Do it as a long story with the occassional inclusion of perspectives of other people for her notes, that way we can mix it up if we like.

Suggestion: I'm doing the Grand National with this if I don't hear any objections by, say, Monday midnight PST.

Suggestion: Anyone who objects after then, well toughy stuffy, I have to have the thing written, edited, and approved by May 1. THAPTHPTHPTHPTHP.

Okay, I'm wondering where the rest of the authors are. They haven't piped in their vote for the name. Could be that they are just happy to work with whatever name they get, but hey, get in the spirit of it!

I think that we all need to remember that this is a group effort, and the goal is not to OUT DO what's been done in the story before you. I've been turned off other chain stories because they got real weird real fast. Let's all keep in mind that we're writing ONE STORY, that needs to be COHESIVE, and that needs to wrap up at the end. So, in a way, you people with the last chapters have it the hardest. You have to pull together all those loose ends. Maybe those near the end (Ulyssa, Circe!, MM) could start to wrap up a couple here and there so it's not all left to Mickie with Chapter 15.

An idea just popped into my head. What if it was a collection of letters to and from the lady? Or it was her journal with each entry having a letter to go with it. Just an idea.

Okay, Muff. Don't be late with your chapter. I want my full week.

Excellent title. It leaves lots of room for wildly differing interpretations of "ladylike" behavior while emanating an old-world essence of properly acquiescing feminity. The title has a grace about it that i like.

Now all she needs is a name.

I look at the suggested title and I see that it is good. This girl is turning into a bit of a laydee and no mistake.
Because of that, I think she needs a name with class and contempory/recent use. Looking at the list I see only one which works for me, and it isn't one of my suggestions; Erica.

I can see that there will be threads discussing this story for the next few months.

I like the idea of a journal/diary entry. Alosd like the title that Muff suggested. As to names: 1). Lauralie 2) Erica 3) Ashtart. I am totally satisfied with my position in line up so I would rather not change unless it is an absolute emegency. I am looking forward to starting this! The idea of cowriting a story with the likes of Whispersecret, KillerMuffin and Madame Pandora truly spark the imagination and humble me. I look forward to taking my turn and am already runnin ideas thru the old meat grinder(imagination)!! Grins!! OK, lets get it on!!!!!!!

Oh well, time to go to work; that'll put a crimp in my funny bone. Okay, well, unless i can find something funny about the intersection of 14 year olds and attempting to teach them something about thier sexuality (without actually saying the word). Oops. Sorry. That would be "Family Life" not "Sex Ed". Gotta get that straight one of these days.

And let me just put this right out front: abstinence doesn't work very well for the majority of teenagers, no matter what your religious leaders would like you to believe, no matter what state legislators want people like me to teach. Get your teens some *good* info on birth control and disease prevention, dammit. Don't depend on what they get at school.

The preferences as far as a name for our Lady are:

So if no one objects, I say we name her Erica.

I like the letters idea a lot. It's flexible, yet provides a direction for the chain. They could all be letters from Erica to other people, or some could be letters to Erica from characters mentioned in her previous letters. See the Letters to Purvi series on Lit for an example of what I'm talking about as far as structure. Those letters are all written by the same author, but you get my drift.

I'm going to send out an email soon to all the chain members to make everyone aware of their position in the chain. If anyone has switched places, PLEASE let me know before Friday.

My idea, or is it cheating to tell?

Anyway, is that it is written by a sophisticated woman from a point in her life looking back. She'll include letters from others, a story or two written about her by her beau, a poem if anyone is so inclined.

For my part I intend to write the beginning of her sexual exploits by her first "protector" to use a victorian term. The one who taught her sensuality. It will be, no doubt, rather long and not very hot. However, it is my hope to give those that come after plenty of material or room to work with.

The way I have her thinking, since it's in first person, is what I've come to think of as "continental." I am using American phraseology and have considered using British spelling to give her some polish.

As for looks, I'm not describing them. I never do if I can get out of it. There is enough imagination in a reader to do so. Not to mention it feels funny to mention hair color, eye color, height and whatnot in first person, people simply don't think that way. Normally being placed between Madam Pandora and Cymbidia would be wonderful. At a dinner party, the conversation would be scintillating. In almost any situation, I think that I would find the company stimulating, perhaps down right arousing. But to have to write an episode with them on either side, Oh my!
