Legend Of Bagger Vance

yes

I enjoyed it too HKBJ. Kind of a feel good movie.
But then I am a sucker for happy endings.

yes

one of the golpher in the movie was based on a true legend.i don`t think tiger woods could take him.

i really liked it too even though it was a bit too "feel good" ... kind of like a disney movie really ... good if not taken too serious

Strong premise.
Beautifully filmed.

Weak result overall. (Though Will Smith was very impressive).
It was desperate to be The Natural and just didn't cut it. The pace was for shit. Weak build. Far too many recipe scenes (formula). I felt like I was on a malfunctioning floorbelt. IMO.

I saw part of it, yesterday. I'm sure I'll catch the rest of it, someday. It looked like it was the typical feel good movie.

I liked the car chase scene and the bit where they disarmed the bomb with only three seconds to go :D

LOL Outsider

That was a good part of t he show all right.
XXXplorer I thought of the natural when I saw it too. Different sport but same type of story.
The Natural is one of my all time favorites.

Get this - it's not a coincidence. Guess who directed Bagger Vance? Robert Redford. I didn't notice that while I was watching, but it certainly got a chuckle from me during final credits.
The Natural - great flick.

Hey Outsider - that pumpkin pic takes the cake, man! Seriously - that is HELLA funny!!

I haven't seen the movie but loved the book, it was so mystic. I wonder if they managed to get that zen thing into the movie?

A Black caddy in 1930's Savannah. Does that bother anyone else?

It's one thing to fuck up knights and castles and the middle ages in general. In fact trying to get that era right has been given up on completely (A Knight's Tale) as of late.

But to get near recent history very wrong, when the issue at hand was ever-present is not silly but pretty much a re-write of history worthy of Stalin.

What's next Morgan Freeman in a Robin Hood flick?

My grandfather had a black Cadillac in the 30s, and he was in a smaller town than Savannah. So, no, doesn't bother me.

LOL That was actually pretty funny. I'm not a perfect speller. I like your sense of humor. Really.

And my silly little friend estevie asks, "do I ever have any good thoughts?"

Yes, in fact I'm thinking one right now. Y'know you've got a very pretty mouth.

I'm confused. I didnt see the movie but you're bothered by the fact that there were black caddies in the 1930's? I used to manage golf clubs and I know this is a surprise, but there are black caddies in the 21st century. There are white, brown and yellow caddies as well.

morgan freemans role in robin hood is actually a very good one from a black point of view ... he is a lot smarter then the white english - he knows about gun powder and how to deliever a baby when theres complications

the role is just forgotten because its such a naff film :)

Southern,

You're not that removed from reality are you? Blacks couldn't sit at lunch counters in the 50's. What makes you think that they're going to be allowed to walk the golf course in the '30's? In Depression era Georgia no less.

Really..........

And no I didn't like the movie.

The Savannah Golf Club had black caddies as early as 1796. Is the movie historically accurate? Of course not. But it was told by a dying white man from his memories of 60 years past. Wouldn't it be normal to edit out the discrimination seen by a 10 yr. old inside his mind as he himself changed with the South?

Perhaps Marx would be happier if Bagger had been lynched at the end of the movie. Then he wouldn't have to reach so far to play the race card.

Actually Robin Hood is a lot more excusable, because I think anyone watching understood that it was a plot device and his race is addressed. Kevin Costner's accent though (eeew). That movies' only saving grace was Alan Rickman (sp), again the perfect villain.
