I was in the store earlier and I saw one of those signs that says you can purchase cigarettes if you were born on or before today's date in...

1984.

1984? Holy crap! That can't be right! I mean, I know it's right, but that can't be right! When the hell did I get so old!?!

Funny you should mention that...

I was just in a convenience store today and saw one of those signs too and I thought the same freaking thing lol

Thanks for the update!

SO I'm FINALLY old enough to buy cigarettes but the fucking Surgeon General just won't give in and give 'em full clearance.

I'll wait until the health benefits are fully incorporated into the product.

You just made me feel like a child molester.

Don't feel bad just because you were being a flak for the cigarette industry. In a free enterprise system even our tobacco companies need a piece of the pie.

Things go downhill after 21.... the only thing to look forward to after that is retirement.

I got carded today to buy, of all ridiculous things, a scratch ticket. C'mon, I'm 24 for god's sake. He thought I was 15...sigh.

You're wrong about that...I'm looking forward to 25 so I can stop paying extra charges when I want to rent a car....

A true Massachusetts Native speaking here!!!

Hate to tell you this, but the rest of the world doesn't have that point accumulation over six years shit.
Nothing personal, but MA is a world unto itself.

Actually.. it was such an amazing coincidence, after six years any discount I might have received was offset by a stunning premium increase the company decided to implement. Now what are the odds on that?

it's not just a MA thing though...it's true in ny, me and nh at the very least. Usually there is a threshold when you get credit for no longer being a "new" or "young" driver and lose a specific number of steps. I just know the MA law since it's the state my car is registered in and the place I use as a permanent address (I'm in college, yes it's legal)

Wow...this thread is making me feel very old...retirement you say...well I was thinking the day all the kids are finally the heck outta my house...but the more I think about it retirement may come sooner.

I bought my first cigarettes in 1970, before anybody gave a shit how old you were. 42¢ a pack. Drank legally in 1976. Gave up thinking about this stuff before 1984.
