Scarlet was laid on her bed in a little red dress. She could hear here parents arguing about her moving in with her boyfriend they had always not liked Joe but Scarlet didn't care. He was a few years older then Scarlet and he made her feel special. She had been so excited when he asked her to move in She looked around her room her boxers were piled up in the corner of the room. She could hear Joe's car coming to the house even though it was at the top of the street he had his music blaring out. She jumped up to her feet and slide on her black knee high boots. She grabbed a few of boxers and took them to the hallway she got her other boxers and piled them up neatly she was a bit of a neat freak. She opened the front door and saw Joe getting out of his car. She smiled at him she only seemed to be happy and smiley when he was around. She could her dad getting louder her dad walked to the front.

"Your not taking my daughter in that death trap!" He shouted to Joe.

"but sir i buy american made" joe laughed. scarletts father henry quickly walked over to him grabbing him by the shirt collar "i said she's not getting in that death trap" joe nodded "i hear and respect you but.... fuck.... you" henry raised his fist and that was the precise moment that scarlet pushed her father away "Dad i'm twenty one, i'm in love, for fucks sakes just let me go" she quickly got in the car, and joe smiled giving him the finger then running into the car. henry tried to open the door but scarlet kept it closed "leave me alone" she screamed "i'm trying to protect you" "i don't need protection from you or mom" joe turned the keys and drove off. scarlet stared out the window for a few moments before joe reached across and wrapped his arm around her. "babe its gonna be all right i mean i cleaned up the place and i even gave you two drawers" "Two drawers big whoop i need a whole separate bedroom"

"I don't know if I can do this my parents hate you and you only gave me two fucking draws. I love you but I need more then two fucking draws." She looked at him she was stressed out. "I'm sorry about my dad he's just protective over protective."

"i'll give you a closet then" he said with a smile "and about your dad, he doesn't scare me" he gave her a reasuring kiss as they drove, but on the inside joe was uneasy and he knew she could see it, he began to sweat, was he coming down off his high already, he reached into his pocket pulling out a few percasets grabbing the open bottle of beer and tossing them in his mouth.

"Okay thanks and I know my dad doesn't scare you." She watched him open a beer. "You need to calm down on the pills and the beer babes." She stroked his leg she was very concerned about him. She kissed his head. "What are we doing today."

"whatever you want" he said, "and as for the pills and beers" he laughed "don't start just last week you were wasted off your ass" only problem was joe did want to quit, he wanted to quit more then ever because of scarlet selling pills wasn't his top priority she was. the thing was he couldn't quit, he tried quitting in the past but he knew he had a problem and he knew that he was going to lose her because of it. he was scared but in being scared he took more and more pills to drown the fear but the fear kept coming and so did the shakes the sweats and the fear she was going to leave.

"Well I don't take drugs do I and I'm only say things about your problem because I care I love you I'm never gonna leave but I want you to get help for the drug thing okay." She looked at him. "Well I would like to go out tonight but then again I've just told you to slow down on the drinking. Let's go out but don't drink to much please." She kissed his neck softly

"i" he bit his lips "can you give me an hour just an hour by myself, i mean there's something i need to do, and i think that if i do it.... i can quit both the drugs and alcohol will you just give me that hour, theres a dinner right down the street can i meet you there in an hour"

"What do you need to do please tell me." She looked in his eyes. "I need to know what your going to do please tell me then I will get out and let you do what you need to."

"there's a meeting right up the street" he said with a sighed pulling off the the curb the dim light underneath the street illuminated a hand full of pills "i'm tired of it, i hate myself and i would change for you. i hate the way your parents hate me oh god i just want them to like me. your right i love you i love you in ways you'll never understand. i want to get a real job i want to get clean" he turned to her and smiled "i'd do anything for you, tonight" he grabbed both her hands "tonight, is the first night of the rest of our lives. tonight" he said with a smile "i put down for you i quit the drugs the drinking i put the past to the past i'm tired of living with the thoughts of what happened to me as a kid, i'm tired of fearing the world in which we live in. i'm tired of being a dead beat" he hung his head "i want to be better because you make me feel alive, with you i could do anything with you i will be the man you need me to be" he sighed "theres a meeting right down the street from the diner, its a narcotics anonymous meeting, today a woman on the street handed me a pamphlet and i think it was divine providence that tonight on this night, the day i met you four years ago that i finally put down" he gave her along meaning full kiss "wouldn't you like that, to finally start a real life with me, for your parents not to hate me, for them to finally love me. a changed man makes changing in his life for the better" "can you trust me please my love please, in just a little over an hour i will walk out with a chip, the first chip that goes to the building of a new life. a happy life" he began to cry "your my everything and i will not lose you to this addiction, i will not lose you at all"

"Don't hate yourself your a good guy I love you and my parents need to get to know the real you then they will like you I think. Oh baby I'm proud of you, you know you have a problem and your going to try hard to fix it. I'm gonna be here to support you." She took his hand in hers and squeezed it. "I love you baby your the only one for me no matter what I'm gonna always be here. I don't care about your past I accepted you for you." She looked at him. "What happened to you as a kid you don't have to tell me if you don't want too." She was surprised he knew how long ago it was they met. She kissed him back passionately."You know my parents may never like you but that does not matter I love you. Your mine I'm yours." She smiled at him but then she changed when she saw him cry she was shocked to see him cry. "Your not ever going to lose me please don't cry I love you. Can I come with you I want to come support you."

he nodded pulling out into the road driving down to st. matthews church where he parked in the back. as a drug dealer he knew the locations to stay away from and the churches around here were those places. he knew that men and women standing outside of a church meant that there were meetings, these men and women had come in here and somehow managed to get through the coming days clean and sober and found a new way to live. a way to live without pills. the concept seemed foreign to him. he walked to the door and was surprised as a teenager with short curly brown hair and a muscular physique said "hey" he turned then out of nowhere the man embraced him in a huge hug, a hug. he'd never had a man hug him before and actually meant it. the man hugged him then smiled "derek whats your name" "uhmmmm joe" he said not knowing what to say, "you here for the meeting" "yeah" he laughed "yeah i am" "alright go in take a right then a quick left and it's your first door on the right" joe nodded then walked inside taking the quick left and then the quick right right into the room that was used for the sunday school room. there were chairs set up in a circle with different colored readings. he didn't know where to sit what to read what to do it all seemed foreign" "just sit down anywhere" said a man at a table. joe sat down as far away from the table as he could. he sat there in silence with scarlet caressing his arm. the sweats were coming in and the shakes. he was detoxing and detoxing bad. he felt sick weak. knock knock knock "welcome to the good orderly directions group of narcotics anonymous i am rob may we have a moment of silence followed by the we version of the serenity prayer" he bowed his head as he was taught by his grandmother and then sat in silence as he prayed "please help me" he prayed. an hour later he fidgted with his chip as he sat at the table scarlet stared across at him he didn't know what to say he felt different some how almost as if he was already a changed man.

She didn't honestly believe in the praying to god she thought if you want to change you do it cause you want to but she was keeping silent she was there to support him. She held his hand she was proud of being here she sort of felt awkward being there she had never been on any drugs. She looked at him she didn't think there would be much change from one session she knew it was gonna be long road to recovery

"i don't know what to do in an instance like this" he whispered "you've seen the dark side of me and i'm afraid of even speaking to you" he was afraid of what she was thinking what she was feeling. he knew addiction was a hard fought battle up hill. he knew drugs had never been a problem for her like they had been a problem for him. he was afraid, and the sickness kept coming and coming detox was a cruel hard bitch especially from opiates. he felt the vomit coming up his throat he ran outside and vomited in the parking lot. he felt ashamed and as she stood and watched he was even more so.

"I know its hard and yes I've seen that side but I'm still here aren't I that means I love you and I want to help." She followed him out to the parking lot as he was sick she stroked his back. "Let it all out baby get it out of your system." She ran her fingers through his hair. She kissed his neck. "Its okay I'm here I love you I know you can do this" she believed him she always had she had a thing of only seeing the good in him and now she was helping him get better.
