What's the least popular category and why? Do you ever write in the less popular categories and do you find yourself serving the public more than yourself?

Also, do you ever read things in unpopular categories, and what are your favorites if you do?

Hmm I don't know which is less popular,I tend to write whatever story I want to write and worry about category later. I don't think about "the public" as such, but I do take into consideration feedback I get and suggestions for new stories or sequels or whatever.

I write whatI like to write mostly, unless I am writing a custom story then that goes out of the window. I don't think I could write about something that left me totally cold very well, though I probably just about could do it.

Would reviews and essays be a slow category? Non erotic too probably...only guesses though.

Edited to add:

Personally I'm not a big fan of incest (though I've written 3 incest stories*L*) or lesbian...in fact I rarely read lesbian stories unless asked to for feedback purposes, ladies just don't float my boat *L*Same goes for gay male I guess.

It's easier to say what I know I do read : non consent, exhibitionist and voyeur, group sex, first time, erotic couplings and bits in sci fi and fantasy and fetish as well as the occassional BDSM story which catches my eye. (dd someone say spankin'*L*)

I meant it more "what do you feel least inclined to enjoy/read", less "what are the stats".

Ah.

I will not read Interracial -- on principle. I absolutely HATE that it's even a category because I think it only serves to perpetuate stereotypes, bigotry, and prejudice.

Beyond that, I'll read any category if I know the author.

Does anyone else find it fascinating that outside Erotic Couplings, Incest is the most popular catagory? What does that say about the human mind?

Personally, I feel transsexual/crossdressers is my least favorite catagory. It's just a catagory that I persoanlly find no enjoyment in at all.

How does Interracial promote stereotypes?

Uh uh. Not starting THAT kind of discussion. I believe it does. 'Nuff said. :rose:

Not really, there was an excellent thread eighteen months or so past that looked at the topic. Few incest stories deal with the angst or taboo nature of the catagory, they mostly swap June and John for Mom and Son or Sis and Bro and tend to be erotic coupling stories masquerading as incest.

You couldn't tighten the entry rules, but if you did, the number would fall dramatically; and so would the readership.

And, I'm boggled at the Incest category in general.

It promotes bigotry because race is irrelevant. It shouldn't be its own catagory because there is NOTHING taboo about interracial relationships and by giving it a cat you are saying, "Look here, we have incest storie, non-consent stories and interracial stories." Race shoudn't even enter into the erotic portion of the story beyond a physical description if you are so inclined to write that way.

The incest thing boggles me too. I think it's the taboo element...it certainly is for my hubby (who I've written my few for) but I do agree with neon...the ones I write are erotic couplings with "Sis" thrown in there. I'd not be ableto write it otherwise.

Oh... wow... can I offer up a possibly dissenting view to this?

You sweet sweet man... you can offer up anything you'd like but I won't change my mind! I've had the extreme good fortune to experience an entire rainbow of humanity and I'm telling you, race is irrelevant. That being said, I'd love to hear what you have to say about it. :)

Hey, I asked first, this time.

And for that: :rose: You made me smile big.

I've developed an allergy to logic. Gives me hives. My feelings and beliefs are what they are and, as such, are not subject to debate.

In that case ought we do away with "Gay" as a category? "Lesbian"? Pretty much all preferential sexual distinctions?

It shouldn't be its own catagory because there is NOTHING taboo about interracial relationships and by giving it a cat you are saying, "Look here, we have incest storie, non-consent stories and interracial stories."

But, there are taboos about interracial relationships. Here in the South there are taboos, there are Jewish/non-Jewish taboos, black/white taboos--it such a "forbidden" thing for so many people on all sides of the racial fence that I don't think that we can say that there is "NOTHING taboo" about it. Maybe we want to say "there shouldn't be anything taboo about it", but that's still not "there is nothing taboo about it".

Race shoudn't even enter into the erotic portion of the story beyond a physical description if you are so inclined to write that way.

Big dicks... big tits... redheads... blondes... blue eyes... executives... teachers... skirts... muscles... long legs...

How are these things, which are turn ons for whatever reason they're turn ons (and there are tons of reasons), more "acceptable" than "tanned"... "olive skinned"... perhaps "black"? Why can we fetish over giant wangs and huge jugs and redheads and blondes and blue eyes and starched shirts and teachers and hookers and muscle men and leggy dames... but we can't fetish over different races?

All of mine are--can't help it.

I said, beyond a "physical description." We agree there...

And the bigotry of the south (and lots of other places) is exactly why interracial shouldn't be its own catagory. When you continue to point it out, you are promoting it. It's like the business rule, "there is no such thing as negative publicity" in reverse.

Fun chat, Joe! Thanks!

So... just so I can wrap this up in my own head--going on this, you'd be opposed to a red-head category or any other physically limited designation?

My story "Soon" is written from my perspective, and our hero is an Ojibwe, so should it have been in interracial?

Didn't think so.

That's why there should be an interracial category. It's not about all races mixing, just a select few, and it's abhorrent.

Yeah. Pretty much. :)

I'm sorry Cloudy. I didn't follow that, honestly. Could you explain?
