It's said that you learn something new every day. For the most part whatever it is that I learn each day is rarely even recognized, but what I learned today will likely stick with me for a while.

If you want your story to be well read on Lit, don't submit it when there is a large backlog of stories to be posted. I posted a new story a mere three days ago and it has already been pushed down to page five on the new stories list.

This story had a good number of reads, votes and comments in the first day after it posted, now it is getting nearly zero. It seems that no one notices anything past page two of the new stories list, and time on those pages is important if you want reads, votes and comments. My story spent less than two days on those first two pages. It seems that there was a backlog of stories that all got approved as the site's mods returned from the holidays.

Don't give up hope so fast. You're still on the new story list for your category. I've found that since they expanded those lists, activity on stories is more spread out than it used to be. Instead of everything coming in the first two days, it takes a week or so for the numbers to come in.

I have been posting stories since 2009, and I don't think I have ever had a story spend more than two days on the first two pages of the new stories list. What I am now finding important is to remain on the category hub new stories list. Remaining there depends more on the particular category than anything else. It must be hard to remain on that list for Loving Wives or Incest for more than a day or two, but with How To or Non-Erotic your story can probably remain there for a month.

Naaaah

The critical factor are the number of hot stories ahead of yours. Once the reader spanks his monkey forget it.

If there are no spank worthy stories on page one, I suspect that the porpoise waxing monkey spankers will just move on to other forms of porn.

My point of posting this info is that I noticed a huge rush of new postings along with my story. My conclusion is that you will get more reads if you can time your post so that you are competing for views with the fewest possible number of other stories.

I don't ever bother with the New Stories List. Just look at the hub. It stays longer there.

Bring up the Story Page. There is a list of categories. Click on any of them and you'll get the hub page for that category.

OK, I'm an official idiot. I never explored enough to see the New Story List that combined all stories. I always checked the category I was interested in. Yeah, it says Hub, (Never payed attention to anything but the stories and the alphabetical links above), but as someone pointed out, some categories move off that faster than others.

Although truth be told when I want to read a story I usually go to the tags portal and start selecting or typing in tags for the type of story I'm interested in, then glean the stories that come up for something that looks interesting.

edited, whoops, hit the submit button by accident. As an author I would like there to be a whole lit page of new stories in the Hub, rather than share a page with the 'random' and 'Hall of Fame' lists. New stories would stay on the resulting full page list for a longer time.

The new list in the hub can be longer (in fact was recently expanded) without dropping the random and hall of fame lists.

I've never seen any malfunctions in the Hall of Fame lists.

If anything, they're the only accurate listings for some of the category all-time lists ( incest, for example )

They do all appear to have a 100 vote minimum, though. So in some categories where fewer votes qualify you for the toplist, it skips them on the Hall of Fame listings.

EDIT: Just noticed you're entirely published in Incest. The existing toplist and 12 month list for that category are completely broken. You can't infer anything from those.

If your story doesn't have 100 votes, it doesn't matter what your score is. The Hall of Fame and ( as if it matters because they're broken ) All-time toplists for the category require at least 100 votes to qualify.
