HARRISON— Celebrating America’s birthday by protesting the removal of the Confederate Flag. That was the scene along Highway 65 in Harrison, by a group known as ‘The League of the South. Arkansas’ Chair of the League of the South, Robert Miller, says Harrison is a central location for many supporters.

"We're rallying in support of Traditional Christian Marriage, we're also rallying in support of the Confederate Flag, Standing against the cultural genocide of the Southern people that's been waged by the leftist in Washington. The Arkansas League of the South, most of our members, most of our supporters are in the North Arkansas area, it makes sense.” Miller said.

In light of the recent controversy surrounding the Confederate Flag, Miller says the claim that the Battle Flag symbolizes racism is false.

"To claim that southerners have ill-will or malice towards people for arbitrary reasons is not accurate. The charge of Racism is an overused and now a days an irrelevant charge to do nothing but to silence the enemies of the left, we don't cower at such a charge.”

Once more, for the cheap seats..

The Confederate Battle Flag was and is a symbol of white supremacy, hatred, and treason.

The designer of what's known as the Confederate Flag (The Southern Cross, the Battle Flag of Virginia) William Porcher Miles, a "Fire Eater" secessionist that wanted not only to preserve slave ownership in the South, but to restart slave trade and bring in new slaves. Miles was a white supremacist who thought slavery was a "Divine institution" and that, "Men are created neither Free nor Equal." It is absolutely clear that his secessionist ideas were rooted in the idea of white superiority and anti-abolition beliefs.

Then there's the designer of the Confederate Battle Flag W.T. Thompson, who took the Southern Cross and placed it on a field of purest white. I'll let his own words speak for him as to the reasons.

"As a people we are fighting to maintain the heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematic of our cause. Upon a red field would stand forth our Southern Cross, gemmed with the stars of our Confederation, all combined, preserving in beautiful contrast the red, white, and blue. Such a flag would be chaste, beautiful, and significant, while it would easily be made from silk or bunting, and would be readily distinguishable from the flags of other nations. While we consider the flag which has been adopted by the senate as a very decided improvement over the old United States flag, we still think that the battle flag on a pure white field would be more appropriate and handsome. Such a flag would be a suitable emblem of our young Confederacy, and sustained by the strong arms and brave hearts of the South, it would soon take rank among the proudest ensigns of the nations, and be hailed by the civilized world as the White Man's Flag."

Spare me the convoluted, pretzel-twisting explanations of how the Confederate flag is not a symbol of racism and white supremacy. If Miles and Thompson, the two guys who designed it, could speak once again, they would tell you - proudly - that it absolutely was just that.

But not only that, it is literally the flag of the people who fought against the union which is now the United States of America. Literally. A flag of a non existent, never was country, that lost a war to the country that they all now claim loyalty to (through the pledge of allegiance and national anthem). A war that they started over their right to keep black people enslaved.
