Le Marquis de Sade

I have found him to be a fascinating study, both in literary terms and in sociopolitical terms. I have poured over his works and have payed keen interest to his letters from prison. I will post my thoughts here in discussion, but I would like to hear from others as well. Have you studied him? What are your thoughts on what you have read? And do you believe that his work has any impact on modern practice of BDSM and its various components?

Well i read justine recently.

I am not into BDSM so i cannot speak about but to me de Sade was important to open people mind about sexuality and practices that other might enjoy even if you don t. In other words: tolérance (to use de Sade and Molière language). He went in jails because of his opinions...

What i will say next might not concern lit members, but i believe, in general, people have not thought enought about what do they want/expect from their sexuality. Their thoughts are they justified or just imaginary because they have been told so.

Following an advise, i will look for philosophy of a bedroom soon.
