I'm looking for two kinds of stories... this can be outside Lit as well because I'm wanting it for sort of research or encouragement.

First of all does anyone know of any stories either on Lit or outside Lit, that deal with Gay men marrying women out of convenience or to cover up their sexuality. This can be fiction, non-fiction, from Lit or elsewhere. I've Googling this subject for ages and nothing has ever come up so I thought I would ask here.

The second stories I'm looking for involve men that are bi-sexual, who have predominately been with men that fall in love or lust with a woman. Even love trianges, involving a gay man, bi guy and woman. Ideally stories from Lit would be great.

Basically I've been writing one big saga for years and over the last few months, I've had a change of heart about a the plot and want to read up on a few things... if that makes sense.

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

This is real though obviously I can't give you names.

The man is a macho man. He joins the army ordinance corps. Volunteers for bomb disposal. During periods of leave and home posting he courts and marries a woman. Things don't work out but they do produce a son. They divorce, he blames the army life. He married again but it lasts only a couple of years.

By the time he leaves the army he is in his late forties, deaf in one ear (due to the explosions) and has been married and divorced four times. he gets a job in a fireworks factory that goes broke then tries his hand at teaching in a college. His arrogance and bullying nature means that he wins few friends with students or fellow lecturers. However he is popular with the management and he gets booted upstairs.

A couple of years later and with his job under threat he reveals that he is gay and cannot live the lie any longer. He says he is having a relationship with a hairdresser and they intend to buy a house together with a view to turning it into a bed & breakfast.

Many people don't believe it, he has never seemed effeminate. They think it is just a ploy to save his job. Colleges in Britain are very politically correct and he could allege he was sacked because of his revelation. However, when he starts to attend college functions with his very camp hairdresser. It is accepted that he really is gay.

What happened after that I don't know, I left the area.

I have since found out that the over aggressive attitude is quite common in men trying to mask their true nature.

I hope some of this is useful to you.

Mostera1 wrote a series about a gay man and a lesbian woman who fall in love (though more out of broken hearts than cover-ups). I suppose you could take a few cues from there. Here is the link to chapter 1.

As for your second type, I would recommend stories written by libidinal. Most of his stories have bisexual triangles with bi-men and women, although admittedly he writes mostly sex scenes and the women in question are willing partners in the orgies.

I hope this helped.

Wow, thanks guys for all the suggestions and ideas. Plenty of food for thought!:)

I've been looking online for a while and came up with nothing, other than looking into old celebrity matches and even then we don't get the personal and emotional details.

Regarding the "lavender marriage" theme, my story is set in the 1930's when a heterosexual, intelligent woman marries a gay man. She is aware of his sexuality, isn't exactly trying to turn him straight, but loves him. I am just trying to make it sound convincing and need to get what a union would DO for for her because in the past (and probably in the present) such relationships did exist.

Do you remember Kenny Everett? His wife decided to let him go when it became obvious that his interest lay in other places. She always said she loved him but felt that she was standing in the way of him being truly happy.

One thing you should remember in your story is that until 1967 homosexual acts between men were illegal in Britain. Strangely Lesbian acts never were illegal.

Kenny Everett is a very good example. I watched the BBC4 drama about their relationship last year. I'm might check out any biographies I might be wrong, but didn't Freddie Mercury have a similar understanding with his female partner?

Oh, I'm aware of the illegalities... in fact that's a major part of my story.:)

There's an urban legend that Lesbianism was never illegal because Queen Victoria didn't believe in it's existence, but I think that's myth. In Victorian Britain, there was probably a ignorant, misogynistic opinion that any woman that was attracted to another female could be sorted out by a man:eek: Also until WW1, most women would have been expected to stay at home that would especially at night (unless they were Prostitutes) so I'm guessing practically it was harder to monitor what was going on behind closed doors. I'm totally guessing here.
