Six Month Progress Report: Lodi Pet Saving Connection

Adoptions: Up 44%, Spay/neuter: Up 97% and Shelter deaths:
Down 14%

ALAMEDA, CA - May 18, 2001 (INB) -- Six months into the
campaign to save every healthy shelter cat and dog in the
town of Lodi (CA), the Lodi Pet Saving Connection has posted
impressive results. The coalition includes a no-kill rescue
organization, an animal control agency and seven out of the
eight local private practice veterinary hospitals. The
coalition is gauging progress towards its five-year goal by
monitoring three benchmarks of achievement: adoptions,
shelter deaths and spay/neuter surgeries.

Ferrel Cats

Dunno if we are talkin about the same thing but either way i have taken in over 10 ferel cats and i still have one. And the one i have is the most loving cat i have ever rescued.

thought i would just mention it.

That rules, furyunknwn! It all goes to show that people CAN make a difference. Thanks for the info!

I came home from work one night about 3 years ago and found an extremely tiny orange kitten sleeping on the front porch. Knowing that the neighborhood was full of tomcats, and knowing the little guy wouldn't make it through the night, I took him inside.

Three years later, he's a lovable (and LARGE) orange engine of chaos. He's also my best little buddy.

When I took him to the vet for the first time, we concluded that he was less than 1 month old when I found him. Considering the neighborhood, I wondered how someone could just let a kitten that young wander off. I also wondered what would have happened if he hadn't chosen MY porch to fall asleep on.

That still pisses me off.

That breaks my heart! Good for you for taking in that little kitten. Under a month old is tiny, and you're right - it probably wouldn't have made it through the night.

I'm just a sucker.

Aside from the cat, I've also had two dogs and a hamster show up at my front door. I managed to find the owners for the hamster and one of the dogs, and a new home for the other one.

Take better care of your pets, people!

LOL! You're not a sucker - you're responsible. Personal responsibility is something society could use more of. We like to blame everything on everyone else, yet we won't lift a finger to make things better. Kudos to you for having character. ;)

My cat's a shelter kitty that was taken from its former owners due to abuse/neglect. I won't even talk about some of the things that were probably done to this poor sweetie but no one else wanted to adopt him because he's not physically perfect from what happened to him but if a cat can have a soul his is solid gold. He's really protective of me for some reason almost like a dog would be and I know it's mushy but it's almost like I protected him so now he protects me. I love him more than anything and he's the best decision I ever made. I think anyone who abuses an animal should have the same things done to them.
