Laurel, the ignore doesnt work on unregisters, so maybe it is time to think of....

Not to ruin a good thought here, I agree with you Siren..but wouldn't they then in turn make up about 10 different registered user names?
I don't know who the people are that do this trolling thing, nor do I care because even if I did see the name before I don't know enough about people in here.

I don't like to see all this arguing going on in here. Laural may come up with a good idea how to cut down the trolling though.

yeah.. trolls should register. That takes all of 5 seconds

But I dont think their brains can comprehend that process and thats why they just show up as guests. :D

trolls could register but then we ourselves would fully be capable of pressing our ignore buttons and tuning them out.

That was the point Siren was making.

Point taken. I didn't even think of that....so forget I even posted here. :) Where is the ignore button? I looked but may not have looked hard enough.

I agree with everyone here. Registering should be mandatory because of the abuse taken from Guests. Shame they are doing this to themselves. Makes it hard on the 'real' guest that stop in to see how the site is before registering.

This is why I created my site to begin with, chicken shit trolls.

I make EVERYONE register, that way I can ban stupid people. Or trolls. No wait, I said that.

Und after ze Trolls...

...ve shall be looking mooost closely at zose who are not American.

HAIL!

I disagree.
No one should have to register on this board, it makes no sense that they do. I could easily create a second persona for trolling people (I have) and it takes away the joy of making funny guest names like.. "Aiko's Tapeworm".

I won't solve any problems.
It would just make more work.
And I don't think this should become a 'members only' sort of place. The first time I posted here I didn't regester. Why take the time to fill out a bunch of forms when all you want to do is ask a quick question on the how-to board? Posting under a guest name is sort of like a test drive..

Have to agree with Never

While I can fully appreciate Siren's legitimate concerns, I have to second Never's contention that it would cause more problems than it would solve.

I, too, began posting as an unregistered. I had no idea I'd even bother staying around. I merely wanted to put in my two-cents worth on a subject I found interesting. This is still true for the majority of unregistered posters. It's the malicious few who cause the grief and I'm afraid there is little that can be done about them that will not cause increased problems for others.

Perhaps the best tactic is to simply ignore them, don't even acknowledge their existence, No audience, no replies= no fun. It would be a shame if in order to alleviate a minor annoyance we were to prevent legitimate unregistereds from expressing their opinion on a variety of subjects. Plus not all unregistereds are trolls, that designation should legitimately be used only in the cases where a person trashes someone else for no reason other than pure spitefulness.

making this place only for registers to post.

Banning guest posters won't solve anything. I've sen the same thing on baords that require your real name and aggressively ban fraudulent registrations.

The only thing that will stop trolls is to stop feeding them. Don't even "banish them to a black hole" -- just act like they were on your ignore list.

If you acknowledge their existance in any way, you are feeding them. When you feed them they grow. All it requires is a little bit of adult level self-control.
