Look up "avatar". You'll come up with (among other random stuff) sites full of pics that the creator allows you to use for free.

Like Laurel said, google.com or other search engine will turn up lots of "avatar sites" but don't limit yourself to just "avatars." Any picture you find on the web can be turned into an avatar. Granted, some pictures shrink better than others do, but all of them can be shrunk down to thumbnail/avatar size.
If you want a dragon for your avatar, search for "dragon pictures;" Knight in shining armor, search for "Knight" or "armor." Wanna be a flower, search for flowers.
I have no idea how you see yourself, or how youwant others to see you, but I'm sure that there is an image somewhere on the web that will suit your tastes. All you have to do is save it to your hard drive, crop, filter and resize as necessary, and post it as your avatar.
