This is just my guess, but it looks like they might be pointing directly at the last post in the thread, which they're linked to.

The column before them shows the last post author and time, and the arrow points at that info and links to that post.

Alternately, it could be fucked up.

Well, I've looked at some other vBulletin Boards (*whistling innocently*), and you are uniquely pointing to the left.

I was hoping there was a reason. Since there is none, then the world *is* coming to an end.

As far as the arrow, I've reconsidered the logic behind it. It points left because we are a bunch of pinko commie liberals. Take your right-pointing arrows elsewhere! What's so funny about Peace, Love, and Left-Pointing Arrows?
