Christopher Reeve died yesterday of heart failure resulting from complications related to his spinal cord injury.

He was one of those rare people who, like Jimmy Carter, are more important to the world after their career appears to have ended. For those of us who are a bit dinged-up, Reeve was an example of not crying over what you can no longer do, but maximizing what you can still accomplish. He'll be missed.

Laurel and Manu: thanks for the remembrance on Lit's home page.

Yes Thank you. He was a remarkable man and I do feel truely saddened by his passing.

I'm very sad to hear of Christopher Reeve's passing and endorse what Rumple has said about the remarkably proactive and positive way he chose to live his life after the terrible accident.

He never was a 'victim' and I saw him in a tv movie recently, where he was a voyeur and witnesses a murder in the adjoining apartment block ( the title escapes me now) as well as in an episode of "The Practice," where he was in fact, a villianous character using his handicap to his own end. What I'm saying is, that, even in the limited acting parts he was able to secure, he never wanted to be seen as, or taken for a helpless victim. He was an incredibly brave and remarkable man and my thoughts go out to his wife and family.

It was a remake of the Hitchcock film, "Rear Window," which originally starred Jimmy Stewart. That he was able to have a speaking role in a film again was remarkable.
