Laundry fetish - should I be concerned?

One of the resident cats here, Marmalade, has a laundry fetish. The moment I move to hang laundry on the line, he dashes out, (a feat for this behemoth), rubs against me, then against the grass, then sprawls in a very...*ahem*...suggestive pose beneath the hung laundry. And if it's windy, and there are sheets on the line, well, one word: catorgasm.

Here's the little deviant in action...

Do you think something in his past is responsible for this...

Should I seek professional help or should I just learn to accept his cat kink?

My suggestion is keep on the path of observance for the time being. Note any damage to your laundry or the effect of any of this adverse behavior on his normal life or those around him.

Like most fetishes, if it's not destructive to himself or others... or doesn't ruin any of your sheets, then it's just best left alone. ;)

Laundry could hold something similar to a safety blanket for him. Did you observe any fabric close to his birth that he had an attachment to but lost somewhere along during his life?

Oh, wow. The poor thing was obviously abused in his kitenhood. :( He'll never be normal again, but with intense counseling he'll might be able to have a fulfilling nine lives.

ETA: I love your fluff threads! *hugs*

Hm, I think his mother was nesting in a pile of discarded Bounce dryer sheets - which could also explain the peculiar softness of his fur.

So far, the sheets remain unharmed but I've noticed he has been jumping in the bed with dirty paws an awful lot lately. Maybe this is a subconscious means by which he hastens laundry day??

Counseling, of course. His mother was addicted to cat nip. Cod only knows what she did to support her habit and how that affected the kittens!

Fluff??! Flufff!!!! (OK, it may be a tad fluffy).

You should post more pictures so we can better analyze the situation. *nods*

With psychological help, your cat may be able to overcome this unfortunate condition. My own Miles has a predilection for biting. Yes, he only does it for pleasure instead of malice but it is still a behaviour which should not be encouraged. Who knows where such deviance may lead? Scratching, play-fighting, dominance of female cats. All perverse and unnatural mating habits in any animal, much less an innocent little kitty.

My cats got it too, but the clothes either have to be really sweaty, or freshly washed with fabric softener.

I find that letting her rub up on the softener one will actually make her super soft and lovable.

… you know I think all the same applies to women.

Would be sweet if they came dashing out when doing laundry. Ax fabric softener body spray

Hey, hey, are we not kinksters? Live and let live? It's kink is not our kink but it's OK? Some of this anti-feline discrimination makes me want to vomit in disgusted rage sometimes, I'm literally angry with rage!

Should I seek professional help or should I just learn to accept his cat kink?

Learn to love the kink - for sure!

My first cat (who died earlier this year - I miss him dearly) used to bring me home socks. Fortunately they were always clean (as they always smelled freshly washed - or were rolled in a pair!) so I'm sure that he was taking them from someones clothes line (or laundry basket!).

*sighs and shakes head* It's so sad to see a kitten's life go down the drain do the cat nip. I see it all the time. Poor kitty! :(

Thank you everyone for your advice. I'm trying to accept and support Marmalade's alternative lifestyle but last night, while cleaning up, I found a zip drive I didn't recognize and when I plugged it into my laptop I discovered some photos from his personal collection.

It seems he is not just confining his exhibitionism to the laundry area...

And then there's the cross dressing...

http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac126/Keroin/Marmflower.jpg

But perhaps worst of all is that he's now dragging the other cat into his wild, partying ways...

http://i892.photobucket.com/albums/ac126/Keroin/Tiger.jpg

I'm...*sniff*...speechless. How do I even begin to talk to him about this. And after all the tuna I've given him...I feel so betrayed.

One of my cats does this. Unfortunately, I don't think I've conveyed to my eastern european neighbours that it's not my fetish when I hand their socks back.

Shame on yu for invading the privacy of a kitty over the feline age of consent! How would you like it if he delved into your private collection?

Maybe he has. That would explain a lot.

My girl cat has a box fetish. The boot box is perfect for her.

Curiously, so does mine. She likes Amazon boxes... quite appropriate for her, actually.
Our 20-ish pound Maine Coon loved boxes. It was amazing to see her squish herself into a box not much larger than a shoebox and have nothing poking out but her ears and eyes, and sometimes nose. I wish I still had pics, but they died when the computer I had them on did.

I think many cats like boxes. They also like paper bags. Most of my cats through the years have liked both. I used to leave bags on the kitchen floor after grocery shopping. After a while, one of those bags would be moving with the curiosity of a cat inside.

I think curiosity is part of their enjoyment, as well as some security of being enclosed in something. I had one cat in the past, and I have one now that will always investigate the inside of a box, if I leave it somewhere they can get to it. The problem is, even if I don't leave it somewhere they can get to it, they will find it. There have been times when I hear a box falling off a counter or from a table because the cat inside has changed its center of gravity.

This laundry thing...
I don't see a problem with it. I know my cats have always enjoyed the smell of fresh clean clothes. Clean sheets on the bed will always attract at least one cat. I had one cat that loved sitting on fresh smelling pillows. That was a problem, because I would wake up in the morning with cat hair in my mouth.

I don't see catnip as a problem, either, but I'm an old druggie from the 60s, so I might be bias on the subject of herb enjoyment. As some have already said, as long as nothing or nobody is harmed from his fetish, I don't see a problem.

But, from your first set of pictures, he does seem under the influence of something...a few sheets to the wind, you might say. And I could see him being an embarrassment, if the neighbors happen to notice his um...scene.

Have you tried diverting his enjoyment to a conveniently positioned box when you put clothes on the line? Maybe entice him with fabric softener sheets inside?

Have you thought about doing your laundry at night? I think that would keep his fun from being seen by others, and less of a problem for you. Oh, that is unless he utters audible sounds of enjoyment during all of this.

You might have to move!

I love Coons...have had two. The first was a goddamn tank, she was. She'd stand on your chest and the breath would be crushed out of you! She died much too young...just 7 years old. We still have the other, and although she is massive, she doesn't weigh very much - mostly fluff. She prefers to stretch out as large as she can!

Oh, yeahhhh... Coonies can, when they wish, cover an amazing amount of territory. Usually on a sofa when they don't want to share it  Yet at the same time, the box-lovers among them seem to also be able to compress themselves into a box one wouldn't think they could possibly fit in. What I love about them most, though, is their innate sense of pride and self-worth. They *know* they're the queens/kings of the universe, and have no false modesty about it, and yet they can be amazingly affectionate and cuddly. Great cats, every one I've ever met.

Yes indeed! I swear when Yummers stretches up to open doorknobs, she comes up to my ribcage. She's so TALL when she stands up! I've never seen her get into a box. Our other cats like boxes...they're always in laundry baskets, shoeboxes, whatever they can find. But Yummers will take up an entire twin bed if you let her!

I did laundry tonight, and the whole time was waiting to be attacked by a herd of stampeding cats trying to get at the fresh clothes (the laundromat was really crowded). Fortunately I made it away without a scratch!

I wanted a Coon. But my girlfriend at the time fell in love with the Exotic Shorthair. He's been a great cat. A pro napper. He sleeps for 8 hours twice in a 24 hour period. Comes running when I call him. And he just loves people. Especailly pretty girls.

My cat apparently loves Italian women. He'll let them do stuff to him that anyone else would be stalked and killed for.
