Approx. 5000 people were killed in the WTC attack and yet 450,000 people in the USA die each year from cigarette smoking related deaths...I'm not trying to be-little what happened in NYC but lets try and put this in perspective...Terrorism isn't our counties #1 killer nor our #1 fear when it comes to our national security like the media would like us to believe...

So far this year including the three planes that were hi-jacked, USA airline deaths total about 420 people...Almost twice that many people die on the road every week in our country due to car accidents and we're spending 3 billion dollars to make the airlines safer...

The anthrax scare in our country has killed one person...Our country is now scared to open a letter in the mail if the sender is unknown but we'll order a steak medium rare in a resturant not worried about botchilism(sp) or we'll chow down on potato salad at a picnic thats been sitting in the sun allday without any fear...

We worry about our water supply being contaminated but we'll drive thru high water in our vehicles without even worrying about drowning...

My point being is that we fear the things that are the least likely to kill us and go about our merry ways not worrying about the things that we do that are proven killers in this country...People are scared to work in a high rise building and they talk about their fears while smoking a cigarette outside during a break...

Its kinda silly when ya think about it but then again we're Americans and the leading causes of death aren't nearly as important as the fear of dying by some freak occurance in life or a terrorist attack...

Sorry Lit. People...

I forgot that I shouldn't be posting topics that make you think...

The Reason People are Scared of Dying by "Freak Occurance" is because it is unusual, and not part of normal life. It is Blared on the Media, written about, and discussed, and therefor, it is forward in more people's minds. The unusual and unknown have been feared throughout history, and it is because there are mysteries within them that can feed on our greatest fears.

Kid, ahat have you presented that warrants discussion? Sorry to disappoint, but your post is hardly novel. We've had well over a month to discuss this - do a search on the old threads. People fear not only the unknown, but what they cannot control. Cigarettes are a conscious choice. Death by terrorism is not.

KidRock, you are the Voltaire of our time.

This has been done about a billion times; on talk shows, in the newspapers, and yes, on this board. Glad you're finally clueing in though.

Keep practicing dude- maybe one of these days you won't be a month behind. Perhaps someday you'll be as good at legitimate discussions as you are at being a complete and total dickhead.

Kid Rock, the piss-poor Lit version of Rodney Dangerfield.

Your reputation really kills any chance you might have of a serious discussion. Why? Nobody likes you. Not even our resident maniacal freakjob, yoyotwat. Pretty sad.

Look...

More KRap!!!

Actually, this makes me no nevermind. Just thought I'd jump on the bandwagon. LOL

Bringing back old memories if I may...
