while driving home from dinner out, I stopped at an intersection on a stretch of road that is heavily wooded with not much traffic on it.

There were two little girls ... couldn't have been much more than 12 or 13 ... so young that they haven't even developed breasts yet, just bony little chests ... wearing shorts and bikini tops. One a pretty little blonde, the other a pretty little brunette ... both with sweet little faces.

As I was stopped at the intersection, I couldn't help but notice that men were swarming around these kids like flies on honey. Two pickups ... two cars already ... each vehicle with one man. It looked like the girls were setting up tricks.

What really bothered me is that one man in a black car, as he was motioning to me to move on, was pulling some white rubber gloves on his hands. The thought that went through my mind was "no fingerprints".

I just couldn't mind my own business. I drove through the intersection and pulled up on the side of the road, lowered my passenger side window and called out to the girls to "come here". As they approached my car, the two trucks and two cars sped off squealing tires.

I asked the girls what was going on ... they said "nothing, we're just looking for a gas station". I asked them "why do you need a gas station?", the brunette answered, "we need to find something to eat". They had 30 cents between them.

After talking to them for a little while (and I know they were not telling me the truth), I offered to take them home with me to feed them, drive them to a gas station, bring them home, call their mother ... all the while, assuring them that I wanted to help and that I was afraid for their safety.

At one point, the blonde had opened the car door to get in when the brunette said to her, "I'm not leaving here without your sister!" I asked where her sister was, and she said "Oh, up the road over there" pointing to a desolate area. I said, "Okay, we'll go get her, too." Just then, the blonde backed up and closed the car door saying, "I'm sorry. I don't want to be mean but I just can't get into a car with you. I don't know you." I replied, "GOOD! hold that thought ... and DON'T get into a car with ANY stranger."

As they turned and walked away, I shouted out another warning about the man in the black car ... telling them not to talk to him, not to go near his car, and to run if they saw him returning. They waved and walked on.

When I got home, it was eating away at me. Those rubber gloves! I had the most terrible feeling that those kids would be hurt. I called the local police and told them what happened. The patrolman listened and then said he would send a car out to make sure they were alright.

I didn't want to get them in trouble, but they were heading for disaster. Maybe, some intervention could help.

I suppose incidents like this aren't all that alarming in big cities, but it shook me up! They were so young, yet old ... so pretty, yet tainted ... so innocent looking, yet in harm's way.

Where did these men come from? How did they just instinctively know? Why are they attracted to little girls who haven't even grown breasts yet?

Scary!

Did I overeact to the surgical gloves?

Is it common to wear rubber gloves when picking up street meets?

Even while I was talking to the little girls ... yet another pickup with an old guy in it pulled up. He said "good evening, ladies" and asked for directions to a lake right up the road.

There were town stickers on his windshield ... he was local and knew exactly where the lake was located.

I looked at him dryly and said, "Get your ass movin and don't come back!"

If I had been you - and had a cell phone - I would have called the cops from right there and waited until they came.

I didn't have a cell phone with me ... but, I was only 5 minutes away when I called the police. Hopefully, they got there soon.

Wow! That seems like a bad situation to me for those girls. Thank you for stopping. You may have prevented a tragedy by just showing up. Pat your self on the back girl, way to go.

The vulchers didn't get their prey last night.

Do did exactly what you should've done. Stop and provide a barrier from those men and then call the cops. Too bad you didn't have a cell phone and their license plate number.

I KNOW!

I felt stupid later on ... I didn't copy down the license plate of the black car!

I don't know how these predators just seem to know. No one wants to think that they are there all the time and when and opportunity presents itself they happen to be in the "right place at the right time".
I think you did the right thing.
Thank God, there are people like you in the world.

How awful! I agree with everyone else here. Thank God there are people in the world like you.

You did the right thing by calling the police. I hope they did investigate your call and went to see for themselves.

I always stop and try and help people out on the road, I am a big enough guy that noone will mess with me(unfornately only those much bigger or crazy!) but I feel like if you have the ability to help you should. I have stopped a few fights (learned not step in the middle though especially the boyfriend - girlfriend kind, changed alot of tires mostly but did really help out a few people. I once walked 13 miles home from my bike that broke down in a suburbian neighborhood and not one person stopped to help or even ask. besides the police officer who stopped me 2 miles from my house to hassle me, search me and then say....your close enough home to walk the rest of the way..after that I decided to always try to help...

Too many bad samaritans, or indifferent samaritans around. It's reassuring to see that there's some good ones left.

thats so scary...i hate men who try and pick up young girls...i'm 22 and i have a 16 year old sister who i take to concerts and one time i saw this 40+ year old guy checking her out and he started to approach her...i cut him off and held up an empty beer bottle i had and told him if he didnt turn around that second i was gonna crack it over his head...he took off and my sister didnt even realize what had happened. she'll learn

Let me preface with this FUCKING ASSHOLES.

Now that I got that out. From the father of a 10 year old girl Thank You.

Yes you did the right thing.

The saddest and scariest part of that whole thing is, I don't believe the girls actually wanted your help. Or at least they didn't know it. They're probably living in this dirty hard life style, and they saw you as someone who would see what they're doing and put a stop to it. Like someone in a abusive relationship. They hide their scars and bruises because their afraid of what would happen if people knew.

Someone actually sent them out on that street corner to turn tricks. That's sick. It's scary that they think they have to do this. It's scary to think that these men would try to buy them. That they wouldn't think of them as their own daughters out there on the corner.

I think what you tried to do, and what you did, was right.

Thanks for caring.............

As a father of several............... me-thinks you did a very good deed indeed!

Sick f**ks like the dude with the gloves exist........... that's a given........... people who care (these days, anyway) seem to be very rare.

Thank you for caring!

your not over reacting
better safe then sorry.
Better you then me in that situation, I would of thought nothign of the guy with rubber gloves.

You definitely did the right thing. Although Wiggles is right, they may not have really wanted your help, it might have at least put an idea in their minds that they don't have to do this.
Its sick to think that girls that young are turning tricks. It makes me very sick to my stomach. You did the right thing.
