On a semi-serious note, you could try sitting it on a usb-powered lap-top tray with built-in cooling fans.

You could try cleaning the dust out of the fan.

I usually take mine out to the shop and blast it with the air compressor.

Helps clean out the keyboard as well, except that sometimes it blows the keys right off.

The fan on my 10 year old HP laptop has also stopped working. I prop the back up about an inch off the desk, and have a fan right next to it.

Never heard of laptop trays with cooling fans. Will look into that.

Twice a year, I take my laptop down to my local computer guy and he opens it amd cleans it. Cost $19. Takes 15 mins.
