Few of us are willing to be drug through the press as Mosley was. And the cost (at least here in the USA) of defending against this kind of thing may well be as much as his damages award. Ask those polygamists down in Texas and I'm sure they will confirm that even though they won the battle to get their children back, they lost as soon as the state started in on them. There is no win for us in this kind of thing. Which is why I never give my personal info to any bdsm groups.

The whole case seemed to be about whether or not there was any Nazi angle to the scene they were playing out, as if the rest of the world has a right to know about your sexlife if there is a Nazi angle to it.

What consenting adults get up to in private has nothing to do with the public. Nazi angle or no is irrelevant.

$60000 is an insult. The British press need to be brought down a level and the best way to achieve that, baring a change in the law, is through their profits.

£60,000 (~$120,000) was the award to Mosley, plus his defense costs of approximately £450,000 on top.

He is also now able to sue them for libel as well (previous case was for invasion of privacy) over the Nazi angle.

The problem is that such a sensational news story really, really sells papers, so most of the time the paper still makes a profit out of the whole thing.

The editor of the paper won't shut his mouth about the whole thing.

I recall him stating something to the effect that Mosley's position as the FIA director requires a code of conduct that he is failing at.

In any case, they expect that this will cost them over a million pounds.

As TheCherub said, Max can now sue for libel, which I believe allows for higher punitive awards. The man knows what he's about. Very few people manage to take on the huge newspaper groups and win.
