Ok so, I’ve got an interesting dilemma here. As an aspiring erotica writer and huge fan of speculative fiction and comic books, I’ve been working on a series set in an elaborate fantasy world. Right now I’m in the worldbuilding phase, but ultimately I’m planning on at least a novel-length prose series as well as a Chyoo story.

Thus far it’s been great fun, and will be worth it even if I abandon the stories themselves, but I’m having trouble on the land/kingdom/region I’m currently working on. Like any great fantasy world, the place I’m building now is divided into distinct regions, most of which have an identifiable hat*, and this being for a very unsubtle erotic series, most of these involve some facet of sexuality, in this case BDSM. Though I’ve got lots of cool ideas (A national flag incorporating whips and chains! A leather and latex-based economy! Huge machines powered by the sexual energy of hundreds of bound “workers” strapped to robotic fuck-machines! Muir caps in endless numbers and varieties!) I’m having trouble figuring out how such a society would actually work, that is, how one would institutionalize BDSM. Perhaps because I’m not as in to BDSM as I am into the rest of the stuff that has defined the lands I’ve outlined so far, but I find myself stuck in a rut. So I’m asking for some brainstorming help.

Any ideas are appreciated, but I’m primarily looking for help with the social structure. Thus far I’ve got a vague idea of a society that places huge value on honor and debt, to the point where a financial boon can legally bind the beneficiary’s family into servitude for several generations, coupled with a very wide class gap, but somehow I don’t think I’m quite getting it.

Keep in mind that while I don’t necessarily shy away from dark and unnerving themes, the series is ultimately meant to be fun and lighthearted.

* “Theme” might be a better term, but I like “Hat” better. Think of it as an organization or society’s single defining characteristic.
