DeviantArt DA, is a site where artists can post their Art, this was an off the cuff response to an aquaintance there that I would like to offer for comment, thank you.
Thoughts to Joe
I read your journal entry and I realize it was posted some time ago. Been sitting here sipping coffee and considering a reply. I should most likely just keep my thoughts to myself as they often seem to bring consternation and anger to others. I guess because you took the time to make some extended comments I can justify returning the compliment.
I suppose it is loosely true that, 'there is nothing new under the sun..." However, the Mars Mission, currently underway, puts a lie to that old quote. But there is more than that..."Spewing vomit..." regurgitating....'grotesque history on mankind..." Things you said...
I will attempt to make two points....we are indeed social beings and we do share thoughts and ideas and learn from them...and although more than 8 billion people will see a sunset this day and a sunrise too, this day, this time, that view of the sun...is unique. Further, some, here there and everywhere, will photograph or write about or sing about or paint and draw what they see and what they feel. And yes, all done before...but each generation has a voice through its artists, a voice of the time in which they live. And, it is as unique today, to each of us as it was to the Neanderthal who drew the pictures on a cave wall 30,000 years ago. Point the first....
Second point, more difficult to convey....it is my conclusion, after more than 60 years of life, that a widespread malady affects this and the last couple generations. This malady, this, 'soul sickness' that many seem to suffer, is hard to define and grasp.
I thought at first, long ago, that it was an, 'intellectual failure' of a generation. That our, 'thinkers' were just being lazy, irrational, shallow. I thought I saw the political division between left and right, between, 'control and freedom', as the heart of the problem. But as years went by, I began to realize, it is a deeper division of mankind wherein the evil lies. And it is surely evil.
I thought also, to digress a moment, that the 'natural' gender differences, inherited and passed on from day one, the 'submissive, passive, weaker female', since she needed protection and nurture, I thought that, 'she' was the root of the desire to be 'controlled and managed'...as in Theology, as in Monarchy, as in dictators and democrats. Those who wish to live in a political system that is, "Father" to the people, that controls and directs and limits the 'people' as a benefit to the obscene concept of 'the greater good.'
There is no 'greater good' than to set man free from all control.
I am rambling a little, but I did say this would not be simple.
If I am right, and even if I could give you irrefutable logical proof of what I advocate, I have found, again through the long passage of time, that people seldom change their basic 'world views'. Not that they are born that way, but that the learning period, from birth to puberty, is set in place and seldom, if ever changed.
The second point deals with my perception that a great many people hate and despise the works of man.
They have a hatred of the basic aggressive, harsh and competitive, 'nature' of Homosapiens, The fact that we are, 'rational animals'. but still, 'animals' with a nature to conquer, overwhelm and dominate.
The have a hatred of our cities and our skyscrapers, of our boats and trains and planes, of our homes and farms and businesses and associations and corporations. They would prefer man to exist in a pastoral scene of 'Eden like' proportions wherein the lion lay with the lamb.
It is, to me, so childish, so juvenile, to curse ones nature and yearn for that which is not. There will never be, a 'genteel' world of mutual acceptance and cooperation. The entire nature and history of man, is open competition so that the best and most efficient, in all things, will survive and continue. Change, through competition and conflict and warfare, is the way of the species.
Ah, well...I have been at this for an hour....I should go back and check for typo's, but my attention span has come and gone. I hope perhaps something I have written will be helpful. It was intended for that and not as criticism and I hope you accept it in that vein.
