When I was a little boy I asked my mother what was a prostitute. She answered that it was a woman that men paid to sleep with them. To me that made perfect sense. Grown ups sometimes had scary dreams or thought something was hiding under the bed, so they would call a prostitute and she would cuddle them until they fell asleep.
Needless to say it was quite embarrassing when I finally learned what the euphamism "Sleeping with" really meant.

When my daughter was in 6th grade she asked me what a "Ho" was.

Me: "Did you hear this at school?"
Her: "Yes."
Me: "Did someone say it to you?"
Her: "No."
Me: "Did a girl say it to another girl?"
Her "Yes."
Me: "Were they fighting over a boy?"
Her "Yes."
Me: "The term "Ho" is a slang term meaning prostitute which is a woman that men pay to have sex."
Her: "Oh, I get it now."

What surprised me was that I didn't get the usual EEEEEWWWW reaction when discussing things of this nature.

There are also cuddle buddies you can pay who are not prostitutes.

I don't understand. Sex is of the most important biological functions. It's right up there with food and water. Kids aren't oblivious to it.

Not in today's connected world. Discovery channel gives them basic idea. Lots of sexual references all over the place. They have a good grasp on language by 5. Empty little heads suck up stuff like a dry sponge. Playing house is the beginning of learning social relationships.

I know. I think you may have misread what I said. I said "Kids aren't oblivious to it." That's to say, they know.

"Ladies of negotiable affection" as a Terry Pratchett thing caught my eye.
