Since I don't have any friends where I live now, and my doctor is not forthcoming with info on this diagnosis... I am getting a second opinion from someone, but they can not see me for almost a month for a 2nd opinion.

Have you ever heard of : Uterine Fibroid Tumors ?

When I hear the word tumor used in connection with breasts, ovaries, or a uterus .... I tend to freak out a bit. I am at a loss on where to get info and help on this.

Can anyone here tell me if you have heard of this and how serious it is ? My reg doctor is talking about removing ALL the plumbing down there.

That face looks a lot like mine did in his office. Removing parts of my body sounds like somthing serious to me. I admit I am pretty scared right now.

I honestly don't know much about them but I have heard of them. I think the are benighn for the most part, but I also think those are the ones that can grow quite large and that can be a major problem.

Fear is ok and it is natural to be fearful at this time but please don't get so scared that you begin to avoid getting the answers and help that you need.

good morning silver...i'm not a lady but i read your question and thought i'd see what i could find...went to www.dogpile.com and just typed in uterine fibroid tumors and got a bunch of hits...the first one.. www.fibroids.com has an information section...hope this helps you get some info...hope everything turns out good for you....

Hugs Sweetie. I don't blame you for being scared not having more info on this diagnosis.
I don't know anything about it. But, you can do all sorts of search on the internet. I know a couple of us here at Lit that have used the internet to help with diagnosing our sick children at one time.

You are in my thoughts and if I find anything worthwhile I will PM you the info.

Do a search on google.com, my favorite search engine.

Whenever I run into something medical that I don't understand, that is where I head first. I almost always end up with far more material and info to read than I could ever use.

Yeah .... I have done a web search before and learned my lesson. I had some unusual freckles show up all of a sudden on my legs and shoulders. I wanted to check them out so I did a search. Scared the living fuck outta myself. Everything I found said " SKIN CANCER " so I am saving that as a last resort after I hear what my Lit family of brothers and sisters know about it.

I WILL check it out, I promise. Just after I calm down a bit. I would like to find out something serious about my doctor then make him wait for an explanation like he is doing to me. What a fuckwit he can be.

i think doctors forget that they're dealing with humans sometimes...i had an opthomologist once check me out for terrible headaches in my left eye...he told me it was either severe muscle strain and i just needed new glasses or it was a tumor on the optic nerve and told me to come back in two weeks...the dick...scared shit outta me...our thoughts and prayers are with you..

I am not a doctor. But completly removing EVERYTHING sounds extreme. My GP thinks I may be suffering from Uterine Fibroids. There was no mention of anything as drastic as that. I was told if I do have them there are options available.

I understand how scary this is. :)

I think the best thing you could do for yourself first, is to find a new doctor. I can't think of anything more horrifying than a doctor who is not forthcoming with me about my body and problems with my body.

Seriously, think about seeing what you can do...there's no reason you shouldn't have gotten all the answers you need from your doctor.

Good luck,

Alex

I agree ... that is what scared me and upset me. However .... finding a new doctor who is accepting new patients can be hard. I am looking.

Please try to relax. You always have a choice. There are different means of healing, outside of the medical model.
You can obtain different opinions. See a holistic healer if you are wary of traditional doctors. Find a good gyn. if you feel comfortable going that route.
Remember, your body reacts to your emotions. Take some time for yourself.
Nuture your body and spirit. Good luck, hon. You'll be in my prayers.

The second opinion sounds like your best answer. Prepare a list of questions before you go in, based on what the first doctor told you. Having that list will help you get better information. Yes, you do have a choice. Fibroid tumors/cysts are nearly always benign. My mother has them in her breasts. I think that sometimes they can be removed from the uterus, but I am not positive. Be sure to inquire about that, too.
You mentioned that the last time you used a search engine for something medical you got scared. This time, it might help you make that list of questions.

Good luck, I'll be thinking about you.

I don't know where you live but treatment is different in different countries...in France they almost never do hysterectomies... in the USA it is common. The tunors are usually benign but can become very large, presing on other organs... as with all cystic conditions, avoid coffee and all phlegm producing foods, like milk... Chinese medicine is very helpful... there are herbs and acupuncture treatments that shrink the tumors... we have had very good success in this area... I agree that a great GYN is essential... hope that helps

I know how scary it sounds.....Ive been there. I have the same thing and none of mine are cancerous. They are like little annoying cysts that usually reduce themselves. Mine are recurring and give me pain alot of the time. Doctor says not to worry about it...but it has gotten worse since last november. Now i am in pain nearly every day from them and experience serious cramping after i have an orgasm....weird huh? I hope things work out...get the second opinion and try to stay calm hon!
Thinking good thoughts for you!:rose:

Thanks for all your replies. I have found some info on fibroids at a site and checked out some of the ones posted here.

The better informed I am when I go back, the better I can deal with the doctor. I am calling both doctors offices tomorrow and insisting I get an appointment, even if it is a squeeze in somewhere.

Then we shall see what they have to say.

Don't forget to ask!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Silver,

After you've had your second opinion, and if surgery is required. Be sure to ask about orthoscopic laser surgery. It is the prefered method for benign tumors that have NOT penetrated the uterine wall. The surgery can be accomplished on an out-patient basis and the recovery is rapid.

This is NOT always an option, but it is certainly one that you should ask about.

The fibroid cysts/tumors can be removed through a laporoscopy. This involves two very small incisions and you are out for the whole thing. I had this done a few years ago. You really will be ok. Fibroid cysts are just a pain in the ass... But that is about it. I have them in my breasts and ovaries. Though when the are in reproductive areas it is important to get them taken care of.

You will be ok! *tender hugs*

Unless you are having problems of some sort or having difficulty getting pregnant, there is generally no reason to do anything about uterine fibroid tumors. They are very common and are benign.
