Make sure that doctor that reads your mamogram knows how to interpret it correctly. Some suggestions:
1. Are the mamograms double-read?
2. Does the radiologist do a high volume of mamograms. Minimum 2500/year is the standard for a radiologist in Britain and Canada. By contrast U.S. FDA rule is minimum 960 in 2 years?
3. Does the radiologist go to yearly workshops to keep up his/her skills?
A recent article in the NY Times explores these issues in great depth. At a minimum, make sure that someone feels your breasts regularly to check for lumps.
