Which labels would you attribute directly to GLBT?

Which labels aggravate you?

Which labels do you take issue with?

Which labels are you confused about?

I, personally, have problems with the term 'lifestyle'...

I think I lead a pretty normal life...whatever that means...I own my own home...I go to work every day...I take care of my kids...I spend time with friends...I try to 'be there' for my elderly parents as much as possible (even though it never seems to be enough...but, I digress...that's a whole 'nother story...lol... ) ...and I spend every moment I can with the person I'm in love with, who just happens to be another woman.

Does that mean that I'm living a 'gay lifestyle'?

Most of the people that I know are straight...they have various different 'lifestyles', many of which are strikingly similar to mine. Is there a 'straight lifestyle'? How come they aren't 'all' living it?

I think the whole 'gay lifestyle/culture' thing was coined by some straight homophobe way back when and ended up just becoming incorporated into commonly used terminology. There may very well be a 'lifestyle' out there...but from what I've seen attributed to it...I don't find that it necessarily applies overall to the general gay/lesbian population.

Just my humble opinion...:rose:

Mines not exactly a label but rather an assumption...

I HATE it when someone knowing that my lover is female asks me, "Which one is the man?"

I also HATE the assumption that a roll in the hay one night with a good man will "fix" me.....

LOL...There IS no man...that's the point! ROFLMAO :D

i don't have problems with labels when they are self imposed

call yourself whatever you want but don't label others

i label myself as gay or lesbian ... i don't feel a need to label myself anymore than that

I take issue with the swishy/queeny gay male and bull dyke labels.

Although I am bi, and identify as a member of the gay culture, I was incredibly offended when, after cutting my hair short (to get rid of all the years of hair dye) someone made the comment "trying to show your preferences, huh?". WTF? My hair was getting brittle and breaking...after 7 years of dyeing it continuously I had NO choice. And the last time I checked, the length of my hair had no bearing on my sexual preference.

I dislike being called a "breeder" as if it's my only function.

Ugh. one of my gay friends calls me a "breeder" and it sooooo makes my hair stand on end.

When the Washington Blade (my local gay paper) was bought by Window Media, they changed the tagline to "All the news for your LIFE. And your STYLE." They got a lot of hate mail just for that line alone.

I dislike hearing or using terms that perpetuate incorrect stereotypes. Otherwise, words themselves don't bother me. It's the intent behind them that I focus on.

the stereotype i hate the MOST is people ASSUMING that because i identify as bisexual, i must be some kind of freak who likes to be with an alternating gender every night. I have been involved in polygamous relationships, hell i know that i am happiest when i can be involved in a poly-amorous relationship. However, if my partner (male or female) expects monogomy, then i damn well give it. For people to think that i just *can not make up my mind*
(and believe me i get it from both sides of the fence at one time or another) pisses me off!!! As for the tags and labels...i dislike them but i have no problem when people who live their lives in whatever way they choose designate themselves with whatever term they deem reasonable.

Until next time
