...I'm gonna ask you people. :)

I have a brief notice in a story taking place in Los Angeles. The place is a major foreign consulate (do they have them in LA?) or a trade comitee office (if they don't have consulates) in some fancier part of town. The thing is, I don't know all that much about what places are called there, which are respectable and which are...well...ghettos. To give the reader a sense of location, I was going to write this...

"Their neon colored bikinis and cute butts sticking up in a perfect sunflower circle where they lay on their bellys chatting close together drew a lot of attention from the men close by. They constantly peered in the direction of the women for a stolen clance at their assets over newspapers, books, or pretending to sleep behind black sunglasses.

And if the people there wasn't enough of a feast for the eye, the roof terrace had a gorgeous view over..."

...over what? Hyde Park? Hollywood? Venice? Where could such a place convincingly be located?

L., I lived in L.A. for several years. There are plenty of places with views but consulates or such would not be located on hills or mountains. The areas I presume they're in are flat. You'd need to settle for just a posh house which could overlook any posh area, e.g., Malibu, San Marino. Doesn't matter much.

Malibu is a very upscale area, and I'm not sure about now, but Benedict Canyon used to be.

Los Feliz is another upscale 'hood, a consulate type might live there (stars do). It's flat so would have to look on a map to see what might overlook it (view from hotel downtown or B.Hills would do it). P.

I'm not looking for a residence, but for some kind of office building, (with sunchairs, a pool and stuff up on the roof) so upscale business quarters would be a good idea. And I don't need a high located place with a view, I assume that you get a fair view from a semi-tall building in a flat area too.

Thx for the suggestions everyone, I'll look'em up and see what they look like.
