Anyone know Krav Maga?

Would you recommend it for basic self defense?

I'm thinking about taking a class in this. How long does it take to be able to use it in a real world situation?

If you have to ask, you are not worthy of learning. :D

There are no real people on Lit, or any other forum. Only personalities and pretenders.

People get way the fuck too hung up on what letters and words some twit with a keyboard puts in dialog boxes.

Whether it's a useful skill or not depends on the person wielding it as well as the opponent's capacity to inflict harm and/or function after sustaining injury.

That sounds like BS but it's not. A mediocre student is no match against a crazed attacker on Meth. An accomplished master is no match against 2 bullets in the back.

Study the art for the art itself and let the rest of it fall away.

A friend of the family was a some degree black belt in Karate, had his own Dojo. One evening two guys showed up at his house with baseball bats. He shot them both.

Two take aways from that;

1. Use the right tool for the job.

2. If you find yourself in a 'fair' fight you've done something wrong.

I agree 100% with this but will add that a black belt or whatever is not as important as the willingness and resolve to disable or even kill your opponent by whatever means if necessary. Unless you have this, all of the training in the world will only make you an idiot trained in whatever.

You have to have the resolve and willingness to kill to effectively defend yourself, no matter what method you use. You can dial it back if that works in your immediate situation, but only that resolve lets YOU make the choice.

I'm surprised you'd be interested, since it was developed in Israel- you know, by one of those ethnic groups you hate.
