Just a ridiculous little thought. Everybody knows those ridculous little counters that every ridiculous little website in ridiculous little internet has attached to themselves. Well for the most part nobody has a ridiculous little clue what they're good for. However, being the ridiculous little over analyzer that I am, I was thinking how one of those ridiculous little counters would help ridiculous little writers like me.

Lets face it, everybody who posts a story in a public form like this wants to be read, and I think it would be helpful to a writer to see how popular his or her story is. Now I realize that's what voting and feedback is for, but lets face it sometimes the responses can be a little lean. I think a counter would let an authour know how many people are attracted by choices like presentation, title, synopsis, classification, even so far as what time of the week is best to have your stories posted, what categories are most read. They would also help the wonderful and amazing Ms. Laurel with adding new categories of interest, and better organizing the site. Not that it needs any help in these areas, I think its the best run run story site on the web, but this information could be of great benefit to everybody involved.

Now I'm not tech wizard, just a guy who thinks and dreams in mass quanities. I'm sure it would be a real pain in the ass to add one of those ridiculous little counters to every story. But I thought i'd try to help ease the anguish of all of those people complaining about feedback and wishing for new categories.

A "Top Views" list, similar to the top stories list, is in the works, but the current implementation takes up too much server capacity and is on hold for rewrites and refinemants to make it effecient enough to work.

Laurel posted a thread about it a couple of months ago when they were first testing it.
