I don't know if I am a taker...It is difficult to define racist. There are many forms and colors. To hate someone because they look different from somebody else, or believe some thing other than I, Stupidity is a better word, Racist come in all colors, religion, gender, and so on. I believe that the KKK, anti semities, or anybody should speak their views, But I don't believe we should afford them police protection while doing it. There is always some segment of society that will spew some kind of bullshit. I don't believe we can wipe racism off the face of the earth, People have to be made aware of the lies that are being told, this will help but will not solve, We can make the punishment for hate crimes heavy. But we cannot change the way some people think, People can spew hate from their mouths, thayt is their right, but if they threaten, or hurt, Put them away. Sorry if I sound disjointed, I have nany thoughts on this subject, And having lived thru the times, There is just so much to teach & learn, But for having answers.........

Please allow me to respectfully rebut the message you posted earlier or at least to provide a little clarification in the matter.

What started off as a peaceful protest of a white policeman killing a young black man suddenly and dramatically changed course 180°. The attention and glare of a tv news camera seemed to transform and agitate the crowd - whipping them into a frenzy. A frenzy which, by the way, lasted 3 days.

Unfortunately, the rest of the world saw civil unrest and lawlessness and decided to label it "race riots". What really happened was that a bunch of antisocial deviants decided to exploit the situation.

Like Blackbich so eloquently pointed out, bad seeds need to be culled no matter what their race. These were not normal everyday folk outraged at the tragedy of a teenager losing his life. It was a gang of punks/juvenile delinquents/hoodlums who decided to run amok on the city streets. They rioted, looted, and vandalized a downtown neighborhood. The surveillance video from a local store, which was shown repeatedly on the local and national news, was obscene. It sickened me to see dozens of youths totally destroying an establishment top to bottom...for 'kicks'.

They were not protesting racism or discrimination or lack of diversity or the absence of opportunities. No..they were breaking the law. Plain and simple. So for you to categorize it as blacks attacking whites is inaccurate. Although there were a couple of incidents where people did engage in physical fights with others, including blacks against whites, it was mostly crimes against property.

I found it particularly galling to hear experts and analysts decrying Cincinnati as the hotbed of segregation and racial tension. Of course it exists. But to focus on the total disregard for law and order that these people exhibited and claim it was in response to the shooting was an insulting and baseless brushstroke against all of those living here. It was merely a bunch of thugs using the tensions as an excuse to break the law. It was a crime of opportunity more than anything.

The resulting fallout of the mayor declaring a state of emergency and placing the city under a 4 day curfew only exacerbated an already tenuous situation. The glare of the national spotlight further inflamed things.

The curfew worked - although it was inconvenient and irritating for those of us law abiding citizens to be punished for crimes committed by others. We settled down. Community leaders started forming committees to discuss issues. I don't know what the result will be or how quickly race relations will improve, but for an outsider to make such inflammatory statements as yours is not only irresponsible, it is uninformed and ill-advised as well.

The blacks believe that there is a problem with the police department- citing 15 deaths of black men over a 5 year period. They claim that police engage in racial profiling and stop them much more frequently than whites. Perhaps they are right. I don't know. I am white. I have never been pulled over by a policeman. I am sure I wouldn't like it much either. But this whole subject, which precipitated the unrest is far too serious to gloss over. And, again, it should have remained the focus of the national spotlight. Not the criminals who tried to destroy this city.

Bottom line, there is always someone to blame for your problems. I agree with the Ku Klux Klan on SOME things. When I see a black man make it, it is always because he worked hard. However, when a black man doesn't make it, people say it is because of racism or because he was held back. Exactly who is the average everyday white man holding back?

What's so wrong about a group that wants to protect my culture? Black people have the NAACP. No one complains. They had the Black Panthers who did use violence. What do people consider them? Useful revolutionists. The bottom line is that it has become "cool" to bash the white man.

The problem is not so much that whites aren't being prosecuted properly for hate crimes, Dreamweaver. The problem is that people like Jesse Jackson are jumping in declaring ANY FORM of white on black violence to be a hate crime. It's absolutely rediculous. God bless the jurors in court rooms that take the time to examine and make up their own minds about motivation rather than allowed the biased media to force their judgement for them.

I've been turned down twice for a job because we had to fill a quota. Neither time was there a qualified minority even asking for the job. That's what I call racism.

I don't know where you're finding all of the racism anyway. The average everyday white man in America is trying to pay the mortgage and take care of his family. We're not out there trying to conjure up plans of attack on other races. A lot of the racism talk is hype. People do a large part turning us into racists, however. I've never owned a slave, never say the "N" word, never neglect someone based on their race and what do I get?? I get to hear every other day about how terrible the white man is. Tell me that you wouldn't become angry with that.

IPB, there are forms of racism out there everyday, and you don't have to look hard for them..Yes the media plays on it, in fact it helps some reporters keep their jobs..Reverse discrimination is also wrong, so are quota's, and the like.
I am also old enough to been picked for a job because the other applicant was black, and the company didn't want them, and also the reverse, when I was passed over so they could fill a quota. It really didn't bother me. On the job front to me the scales are balanced, and quota s/b dropped.
Jessie Jackson lives off the death of King, and is a media whore, until he gets his nuts caught in a vice, then you don't here much friom him.
Black Panthers were a result in the 60's because lynchings were stil a common event, Doesn't make it right, but understandable.
I lived thru the civil rights movement it had many good things and many bad things, but it was the liberal movement in the country in the late 60's and early 70's that went too far, and when the time to reign it back in it was difficult and still is.
No I never owned a slave, I may have used the N word years ago, But that was my own ignorance, Now knowing better I don't now.
And during the King riots in LA..when the white truck driver was beaten by black rioters, they received a stiff sentence for that beating, Sso it does equal out.
Racial profiling continues to thsi day, Driving while Black is a common expression here, And I have witness that on a first hand basis.
Sayin that the KKK is protecting white heritage is just like saying, Neighborhood schools, Private clubs...The KKK ain't protecting my hertiage, not at all, Remember Mot only do they hate Blacks, Jews, Cathloics, Democrats,Gays, and anybody who doesn't believe in their extreme beliefs.

Just to bitch about something, Reverse Discrimination is a ridiculous term. I know what is meant by it but the term that should be used is "Discrimintation."

EBW & CB...you are both correct on the Reverse thing, I guess I got caught up in a media saying, any form of discrimination is wrong, But during the 70's Reverse discrimination was a keyword for all types of political action, especially here in the Northeast....
