I took my cat in for surgery today. The vet let me observe the surgery, which was very cool. The bone was broken pretty clean below teh hip joint, and then split down the middle almost to the knee. As far as breaks go, it looked really severe, but turns out not to be too bad. The vet ran a pin in, wired the bone around it and was done. Sounds simple, but it took 2 1/2 hours.

Spot's home now, laying in a crate looking at me like I'm a terrible person. He's going to hate me more when he realizes the crate is his home for the next 8 weeks.

I talked to the vet about billing. i should have known, since he's primarily a horse vet, that he wouldn't expect any money up front. Us horse folks are real bad about agreeing to spend a ton of money to have our beasties repaired, and then 'forgetting' our checkbooks. Anyway, I paid him some today, I'll pay him some in two weeks when he comes out to remove sutures, and the rest when he takes the pin out.

This is obviously a pointless thread, but I thought i'd update y'all.

Good to hear that all went well. I didn't post in your other thread but you've done the right thing.

Give him a pet from me.

It sounds like your reasonably content with your decision, pagancowgirl. Good for you.

Glad to know he's doing well. Thanks for letting us know

Ummm... it was $490 for the surgery. I haven't had his antibiotics scrip filled yet, but I'm guessing it's not going to be too much.

He's now my second most expensive cat.

I'm glad to hear that it went well, pcg. Good luck on corraling the patient in that crate...lol.

I am soooo glad that you were able to swing this. He'll be a great pet and you are a great pet mommy. :D

It's gonna be so much fun to keep a mostly outdoor cat confined for 6 weeks. He may be relocated to the barn if he yowls constantly.

The last time I had to try and keep a kitty in confinement was when a farm cat was hit by a car and broke her pelvis. We were supposed to keep her immobile for 4 weeks. I think we managed to keep her in the crate for 2 weeks before she attempted to shred us.

Worth every penny. :)

How about that rain erosman? Yes.

Yes, St pete, when I floated pass the broom patches tonight, I was looking for an ark:cool: . How much did you get? I didn't need to go to 4 wheel drive, but close.

now, tswyk, that cat in your av has an amazing likeness to your cat from that thread. Are you sure that isn't you?

I'm glad Spot's home & fixed up, even if he's mad. :) You're an awesome kitty mama.

Not pointless. Hope you and your kitty are well, you are in my thoughts. :)

Congrats on your all-fixed kitty.

I wish you the best of luck keeping your kitty in the crate. My cat would find a way to torment me for weeks on end once released if I ever did that to her.

You said your cat is 18...so maybe 18 years ago?

it's clean as a hound's tooth...now

i'm so very happy that your kitty will be fine. don't worry he/she'll love ya for it when its all said and done. :)

So happy the kitty is all better.

Sending out loving pets & scratches to him.
