I have a sore throat.... so what old wives tales and family cures do you wish to share?

I hate Sore throats *pout*

Not an old wives tale but learned it in the Philippines. Get some Ginger Root, skin it then crush it. Boil it in hot water like tea and drink it. Within 12 hours all gone. Do it all the time and it never fails

Gargle with warm water and salt.
Blech but effective.
Take garlic and vitamin C.
Sip lemon and honey hot drinks.

a cup of hot tea loaded with honey, lemon, vitamin c powder.

and a shot of brandy.

Your favourite alcohol taken in large quantities.

Doesn't cure it but you won't care.

Honey and lemon in warm water.

robatusin is the universal cure. put some tusin on it and you'll be fine

couple of tablespoons of lime juice
couple of tablespoons of honey
1/4 tsp salt

put 'em in a glass, fill the rest of the glass with room temp tap water and sip it slowly.

My throat's sore, too =(

Were you kissing Ezarc too???
Damn men and their cooties!

*cant spell when I dont feel well

Ok, this is gross, but it works. Take it from a girl who's had strep and mono more times than she'd care to discuss.

Snort warm salt water up your nose. Yes, snort it. Don't gargle it. Snorting it up your nose will insure it reaches the place where it really hurts and it will help heal it.

Just put a little bit of warm water in a glass, shake in some table salt, stir and snort.

Cheers!

Time tested....time honored...

Ice Cream! Hold it in your mouth and let it slowly melt down your throat. I recommend a large bowl, with additional items like cherries and chocolate. A cup of coffee is a good companion drink!

This remedy is also good for:

Bad Mornings
Bad Afternoons
Bad Evenings
Relationship Problems
Traffic Jams
Rainy Days
Loud Children
PMS
Post-PMS
Bad Day at Work
Tearful Movies
Tearful Stories
Smoking Cessation
Car Problems
Financial Problems
Telemarketer Problems
Lit Problems

**Get well soon! :D :rose:

Thanks all I have been doing popsicles and tea all day... that and keeping up on the ol vitamins...now if I could just sleep.

 I thought once you got mono, you were immune from ever getting the symptoms again. Kind of like chicken pox. At least, that's what I read.

As for the sore throat, I just drink lots of fluid. Usually cold, when I think warm would be better. But I use cepacol to suck on to dull the pain, too.

Bah, ya'll are missing the best treatment for a sore throat. Cinnamon Jolly Ranchers. It's how I've treated mine for the past 13 years. They work better than anything else I've found and they don't taste like crap liike most of the things out there to ease the pain. :)

I would have said the salt water gargle, mentioned above.

When I was sick a couple of weeks ago, UncleJ sent me a remedy I was too chicken to try: 1/2 bottle Nyquil + 1/2 bottle whisky. It might not cure what ails you, but I don't think you'd care anymore! [I opted for going to the doctor for antibiotics]

I wish you were right, Chey. I think that most people never get it again, but I'm here to tell you that I've tested positive for mono on three seperate occassions in my life.

Honey and Clove tea:

Make your favorite tea with one whole* clove added while it steeps.

Sweeten with Honey.

Repeat as often as necessary.

(* Do NOT use ground cloves! Ground Cloves get stuck in the mucus lining of the throat and can cause gagging and other non-benevolent effects.)

you are amazing.

The gargling with the salt water bit is the best way to kill the irritation instantly. Then you can do teas and such to coat the throat and soothe for longer periods.

I am sorry you all are sick..

Hun, the test for mono is for the antibodies, which you will have in your system for the rest of your life. You will always test positive for mono, but unless your imune system is from Pluto, you can only get it once.

Since this was bumped I am taking this oppurtunity to whine that my sore throat has progressed into a full fledge head cold...and my sore throat is now the least of my complaints.... *whine whine whine*

*Passes the Tissues*

As someone who was laid up for nearly two weeks, I can so sympathize with your plight. I hope yours is over quickly. Drink juices! Lots of fluids!

This has not been my experience either. Recently, I was plagued by one cold and sore throat after another. It could have been from my germy kids, or stress, but my doctor ordered a mono test just to be sure. It came back negative.

Rubymyst, I don't believe that to be true, and it's certainly not been my experience. My doctor told me to do it years ago, and it really works. It gets the healing salt water to high up in the back of your throat where the infection is.
