Now...

If you had access to top secret documents of the government, would you publish them? Where would you draw the line?

Having had a Top Secret/SCI clearance once upon a time and being married to someone who maintains his...nope. Couldn't do it and wouldn't even if that wasn't the case. People truly don't need to know everything and especially when it endangers those who ensure we maintain the way of life we enjoy.

I'd draw the line at anything that revealed personal info or might end up getting someone killed.

No, because it's illegal. Should it be illegal? Maybe not. But revealing classified documents is illegal, and I'm no scofflaw.

I most likely wouldn't tell, because I wouldn't be bothered to contact the media. I don't like making phone calls to people I don't know.

I"ve seen the stupid shit that gets classified and the way that the military educates it's own on what should and should not be classified...so I probably would. I'm also of the school of thought that if our government admits when it fucks up, it will go easier than when shit is covered up.

For example: a local soldier died, and her family was told that she stabbed herself on accident. Then a bit later that it was an accident, but no details were able to be told. Eventually, several weeks after her death, the family was told that it was being investigated as a homicide and that she was stabbed to death in a tent by one of two of her friends. That shit is what pisses me off. Using the govt power to cover shit up that is embarrassing rather than just saying "something fucked up happend and we are trying to figure out what it was."

But I'm kinda anti authority, anyway.

Exactly. See Tillman, Pat.

The way I see it, the gov't pushes on us, "If you're not doing anything wrong, then you shouldn't need to hide anything"... what's good for the goose, is good for the gander, imho.

My uncle-in-law was murdered by his wife... and she and her family had quite a bit of pull in the city they were in. Everyone in our family knows what happened, and she spilled the beans so much to us that all there was left to say was "I did it" (and the only reason she didn't was because I walked in at a bad time, and she clammed up). Thing is, though, is 'cuz her family is powerful, the local gov't didn't do a damn thing against her. Even the lawyer we got knew she was guilty as sin, but he couldn't touch her despite all his efforts: the police ruled it a suicide, and the judge proclaimed the case was closed. Screw the family who lost a loved one, as long as the wife's name wasn't tarnished amongst the community, and the wife's family was still in power.

The gov't is a corrupt lot... all that matters to them is money and power. They are *supposed* to answer to us, we the people are their boss. Nobody in any "normal" job would keep that job for very long if they didn't come clean on what they do, everyone around them covers up for them, or if they're the one to go to for gossip and rumormongering. Yet, why do we allow it for our "employees", the gov't?

For me, there is no line... we shouldn't be meddling in other countries' affairs, and every war since Vietnam has been highly questionable in morality. If America wasn't such a nation full of busybodies, we wouldn't have half the problems we do, and there would be no secrets needing to be hidden.
