are going to stream a video of some gal losing her virginity....

there seems to be a huge stink about it with bloggers like maggie mayhem taking them to task.

I think the way the press release is worded is frankly vile. It's kinda put me off them.

I don't know why but it puts me in mind of Atwood's "Oryx and Crake".

ha! I don't think I've read that one!

I find the whole tone of the release and the tweets of the actress pretty grim.

yes, I just outed myself at a twit. my friend pressed me to do it!

Of course, there are operations which can create born again virgins....maybe this is one of them in the flesh all in the interest of creating profits for the site. Sheesh, I am becoming cynical aren't I?!

I think it's more the guff about losing her 'innocence' and the crap about checking her hymen is intact. it's so full of bullshit. her posts on twitter are almost as bad.

Exactly, so more than likely it is all fake and she has no innocence left to lose.

well she's already a minor anal porn star and there have been allegations that she isn't actually a vaginal virgin either.

but it's kinda beside the point. it's the approach of kink.com that I find rather tacky. I always used to like their stuff.

LOL, they are a porn site and playing the scene to the hilt for those who need it for wank material.

Catalina:rose:

Yeah, this experience is going to be totally magical and special for her. Not only will she not be able to pick the man who gets to skewer her poor peesh for the first time, but shortly after the blood and pain she gets two more shoved unceremoniously (heh) up in there.

How lovely for her. I hope she brings an icepack.

I know, but they do push being sex positive and woman friendly. so perpetuating the myth of they intact hymen and the notion that a cock in a cunt magically makes someone a woman is just the usual heteronormative bullshit.

I actually don't have an issue with her losing it live on cam. she's not sexually inexperienced and I would think that it will be a lot better than most women's 'first time'. Plus she gets to fuck Mark Davis.

It's pretty lame. It's porn. I don't expect much better.

How is "Kink.com might be sexist!" suddenly on the radar though? Excuse me, caging, beating, "force fucking" dousing and "training" grown women for fun is non-sexist - female "power" = high heels and oiled tits isn't sexist - but THIS is? Heterosexual kink is the knee jerking and pulsing and flailing of human beings in relation to that heteronormative and heterosexist messaging, unpleasant as that might be to admit. It's fucked up inasmuch as we are collectively fucked up and I don't necessarily think it can be stopped only dealt with in various ways. I choose to find a way to enjoy it as do other pervs.

Why is this narrative sexist while the entire supposition of "training floors and bitch this bitch that" isn't?

Isn't it kind of weird that the whole "training of O" esque narrative is absorbed into "third wave approved rawr" while the whole lame-o "virginity" one isn't? I mean seriously, we've absorbed that getting throatraped and electro-wired in the puss in a cell is way cool if she likes it like that, but getting skewered by peen for the first time with a crotch cam is damaging to alt sexuality?

To me, the "sex positive and woman friendly" banner has much more to do with work environment and behind the scenes than product. I frankly don't care if you're making "lesbian vampire gang bang 4" if the women in it are paid, unpressured, and having fun, that's what I care about, and it's much harder to gauge so people worry about the onscreen moment.

I know we're supposed to be saving the world with feminist pr0n, but I'm more interested in being profitable and tweaking the dialogue gently and making a work environment positive and tolerable for the human beings performing in it, men and women.

The bottom line is that while I have LOADS of obejections to Kink.com output which always gets a free pass for being made by scene people (seriously these guys will never understand Femdom) they do seem to foster a work atmosphere that people love, a work atmosphere where the content peeps are empowered around their limits, and I think they steer clear of hiring vanillas out of their depth in a way that fetish producers are wise to look at.

So I like them, promote them, and wish them the best at the same time that some of their stuff is less than ideal in regard to my ideal world. And every once a year Divine Bitches accidentally gets something kind of right and fap-tastic.

Peter Acworth did a pretty class apology for the press release tone in Maggie's comments - just "you're right, that press release isn't commensurate with what we should have done for this event, Nicki's always wanted to do this and we're thrilled that she wanted to do it with us" "It" being lose whatever she thinks of as her vaginal virginity on cam. Once upon a time I'd be cynical about apologies like this, now they're so rare as to be noticed.

Stranger fantasies out there, and if some chick can get that much notoriety ebaying hers, more $$$ and power to this chick.

I think you misinterpret me. or probably I wasn't that clear in the first place.

I have no problem with her flogging off her virginity to the highest bidder or the fetishisation of it. or indeed kink.com making a financial killing. I'm well aware that tying women up and beating the crap out of them is laden with sexist imagery. What I don;t like is the way that it pushes the myth of the hymen being something that 'proves' you are a virgin and the fact that the actor is banging on about finally becoming a woman.

I just find it really tacky and the kind of crap I'd expect from a more mainstream porn producer.

It's interesting how the CEO is now making rather conciliatory noises. The tweets that kink made in response to criticisms were pretty much 'yeah, so what?' Clearly they have had to re-think.

I'm sorry, I don't mean you personally, I mean the sex positive feminist blogosphere if in fact this is something of a shitstorm - it strikes me as kind of weird for the reasons I mentioned.

I agree it's tacky, I agree it's sexist, I'm not so sure I think it's "out of character and surprising" to the extent that a lot of this subculture does - because, well, what I said.

Why would you expect some kind of enlightened attitude about the presentation when the attitude in the presentation has never been all that enlightened? I mean apparently you're also never *really* in touch with your female sexuality till you submit to the upper floor although you're a Domme or some shit, right? Among a million other instances.

I think basically when the sexism doesn't give the blogger a girlboner then it's a problem. At least a leetle bit.

I'm glad that they're backtracking, too, though. Maybe they'll grow more of a brain across the board. They've been trying to have the cake and eat it too on all this stuff and often congratulated heavily for reality and verite when to me I see no such thing, or hardly any. I'd much rather they adopt a position "we make some really pretty images with some wicked bondage and cute girls you might actually encounter in the real world" instead of "this is REAL guys!" People will still pay.

Admittedly I don't have an armory and a army of cute girls, but I do make a decent living and I've always done it crediting my customer for being way smarter than the average bear and addressing him as such, even while calling him a worthless moron. It actually works. They're out there and they have credit cards.

I'm not familiar enough with the whole bdsm ceremonial stuff and how to do it 'right'. I just always found that the the only porn that really did it for me personally was produced by them. not because of the kink aspect of it so much (though obviously that plays a part) but because it seemed much more honest. I read that press release and the tweets and it just made me feel yuck and not want to use their porn any more.

And I should say that it's not just that it's because this kind of sexism doesn't turn me on. most of the output of kink.com I find cunt shriveling. I am actually repulsed by the torture, humiliation and degradation that feature in the majority of their output. But I always felt that they were an ok company and therefore one that produced some stuff I was happy to fap to. Now, I don't really feel that.

I'm maybe not being very articulate here, but I suppose what I'm trying to say is before I felt they were somehow different, but now I realise they are actually pretty much like every other sleazeball porn producer and it's disappointing.

Virginity is such bullshit. All of our societal hang ups and valuing of it are such bullshit. There is no such thing as "purity" in a human being.

*grr*

That's shitty then. I still think that they're probably pretty awesome to work for, and I also think that they're more likely to be sensitive to this reaction than mainstream - it'll be interesting to see how this filters.

I'm not a huge fan or non-fan or obsessive, I just kind of peek at them every now and again, find something relevant and pop it onto a site for the little kickback - but I DO think that they're more sensitive/reponsive to dialogue with their customer base than industry average.

As annoying as I find Divine Bitches I think it's gotten better because they've been needled to do better periodically by the customer base. This may prove similar, or may not.

Yeah, I'm with you here, FF. The whole "Ooo ahhh ooo, intact hymen!" thing makes me want to blow chunks.

It's not human purity we're into, just female purity. Goes back to goat-trading or something. When I see boys being guarded by their fathers I'll believe that virginity is really valued. Where's the purity ball for the boys? Somewhere if we're worried about heterosexual intercourse, there's a dick getting sullied too.

I've spent a lifetime of not being turned on, it's nothing new for me. it will be interesting to see how it plays out. the backtracking has been impressive, though.

I've never been into femdom. I find it completely baffling, so wouldn't know how they have improved, but given they are part of the same company, I suppose we can expect a bit of a shift as well?

I think it's possible in this case, which is more than I can say for mainstream. They've always been walking that fine line between success measured in guys fapping and paying, and success measured in positive word of mouth among actual kinksters (who tend to peek updates and fap for free and then go play with their own partners, ha) but word of mouth pays for itself.

Both these things are important in the overall mandate, though, as I scope it, so I think they're going to work to repair and not repeat. It's in their self-interest, but I think they do have a give-a-shit streak about positive kink that gave way to a brain fart or some boy tunnel vision for a moment. I'm optimistic that this will be an educational little shitstorm.

I just think that it's also an opportunity for the sex+ feminist sphere to ask itself a few questions, too. What constitutes supportive, what constitutes problematic representation? The only solution, as I see it, is for more women to pick up cameras. Period.

For what it's worth, no guy I know would call that female innocent. Seems like she falls into the group we used to call "EBs" (for "everything but").

As stunts go, this one seems incredibly lame.

@ Netzach, what he said - in spades.

I'm just wondering why they didn't go out and get Brooke Shields to sign on as the play by play announcer. ;)

She is cute in a mamas girl kind of way. But how exciting could a virgin possibly be? Sounds like a fetish, you know like rubber fetish, it has zero turn on factor for me.

Really virginity is that moment when you realize, “Fuck!! Now I have to teach her… you did take birth control right?”

And I’m sure the Japanese have done it before anyway.
