The story I'm writing right now involves a sleepover of 4 teenage girls. My initial idea was that they'd all share a big kingsize bed, but I'm starting to have my doubts on whether or not that would even fit. Like, I know it would be... cozy... but now I'm wondering if it's possible at all. Lacking access to a kingsize bed (and 3 volunteers) to try it out, I figured I'd ask if anyone here could help me figure this out.

So yeah, would 4 thin/averagely-built girls fit on a kingsize bed side by side, shoulders touching? How comfortable would that be? Or would it only be possible if they did their best cutlery tray impression and basically chain-spooned?

King sized bed is 76" wide by 80" long so you do the math. If they are good friends, there shouldn't be a problem. They might be even better friends by the morning. I know my hands wander in my sleep, so....

They would fit but... The term sleepover is a misnomer. No sleep actually takes place. They likely won't even use the bed unless perhaps they just sit on it.

Funny, the beds always got used whenever my kids had sleepovers. Sleepy heads in the mornings under blanket forts were quite common throughout their teens, and very often both genders in communal groupings. With six or eight kids, it was all surprisingly innocent (with occasional wanderings up to a bedroom for some luckier couples...).

Wikipedia has a whole article on Bed sizes. An American King size is a couple of inches wider than an Australian King which is a fraction bigger than most Europeans. But if you really want to get up close and personal try Japan - some of their beds are tiny, and if you stay in a country hotel (a Ryokan or Minshuku) you might even get a wooden block pillow.

There is even a product marketed as a Texas King and that is the biggest of the lot. :)

There's also a California King, which is the size of two single beds.

Everything is bigger here.:D

ps. five girls can fit on a queen if they do it right. They wo t get much sleep but it will be fun.

I tried me and six fairly drunk ladies one time. It don't work too well but it was fun for all, even if four of the ladies were lesbians. Somehow I got my big ass tossed out onto the floor. I took in the action among other things from my knees next to the bed. Pray right with your tongue hanging out and your prays will be answered. :)

We had 4-6 girl sleepovers pretty regularly when my two older girls were in high school. The sleeping arrangements weren't very well-organized.

I think if you want four girls to stretch out on the bed then they'll probably need to spoon. Otherwise they could sleep curled up cross-wise on the bed, in a heap, or partly on a chair or the floor. From what I saw, "heap" was pretty common.

I just remembered that this story takes place during the summer, and on a pretty hot day at that. So spooning or just pilling onto a heap would probably be a bit uncomfortable and sticky. Hmm... might have to stick with two beds after all then because of the heat, since then everyone probably would prefer a bit more space. Sharing body heat in the winter can be great, but in the middle of the summer it's probably not comfortable.

Hot and sweaty slick bodies rubbing together. What could be better? A Wesson oil party but now I'm dating myself.

160 x 200cm is the EU size.

Yes, possible. Done it in a double. Three lll and one across the bottom _ .

Huh?

Okay, both my mom's beds are late Soviet heritage, but they both are two 96×206 cm mattresses side by side in single frame, so at 212 total actually wider than long. The single "double" mattress of an older bed was 172x208 cm. The singles here are 76-90 cm wide; yes, that's huge range in practice. Then there's funny one-and-half size between 110-124 cm in width. I can testify it is possible to pack a guy and two girls on 120 cm, but that's cozy. For two, it's almost enough actually, unless they hate each other and/or kick in sleep.

P.S. do the math and declare the bed as wide as you like. Strand human measurements are around somewhere in case you haven't an example at hand.

Four "average" size teenage girls could easily fit on a California king size bed. It's fiction, right, so who is going to read your story, then go measure a bed and then go find four teenage girls to measure to see if they'd all fit? Just wing it.

Maddingly, there are readers who will do that and only comment on that, giving a low rating whether or not they are right and as if that is the only element that appears in the story.

That may not be the chief element of the story, exactly

I wasn't too worried about exact measurements, but having little experience with kingsize beds myself I just wanted to know if it sounded plausible or of people would instantly go like "Four people? In a single bed? Impossible." Anyway, regarding the summer heat and other story elements, I finally just decided to play it safe and go for two separate beds with two girls each instead. Even got a bit of characterization out of it as they argued over who got paired up with who, so I think it all turned out fine.

Thanks for the replies though everyone, this was a fascinating discussion and I've learned a ton about worldwide differences in bed sizes.

Look, it’s fiction, right? Artistic licence? You can, if you want, write a bed that six average-size teens can get lost in just looking for each other.

But, for real-life reference, check this. https://www.bing.com/images/search?...1&selectedindex=469&vt=4&eim=1,3,4,6,8&sim=11. Four women in what might - might - be a queen.

Be bold.

Futon or cot

In her room she could maybe have a futon, daybed ( I think it’s like a bed that comes out from under the bed, or maybe even something like a spare cot or air mattress. Something that could be near the bed so that originally one or two of them were planning to sleep separate but close to the others, but once any erotic things happen the end up close together in the bed, maybe someone can be sprawled half on the bed and half with their legs on the futon if they pass out.
Depending on the room size she could also make a make shift bed on the ground for them to all share using pillows, blankets, sofa cushions, and those padding’s that you put on top of your bed to make it extra soft. If they have been friends for a long time this could even be a sort of tradition for them since the were younger.

If they have a good ceiling fan and a standing fan, it could provide enough airflow to allow them some cuddles as well.

Terminology

A trundle bed is a mattress on a wheeled frame that rolls out from under another bed. A daybed is basically a sofa that uses a mattress as its bottom cushion, usually with very deep pillows used as a backrest while a sofa. To confuse matters some daybeds have a trundle bed underneath.

Sleeping bags. Many a platonic teenaged sleepover I attended was one or two in the host's bed and many girls on the bedroom floor in, or on if it were hot, sleeping bags. Sleeping usually occuring at or shortly before dawn, if at all.

Back to the Triplets idea. Two girls trying to convert their brother. Maybe with the help of a few friends. Everybody in Babydolls.

Everybody.
