In a slightly altered version of our world, the stories of Camelot and the Knights of the Round Table actually occurred in the Middle Ages. Camelot started as a battle camp where the Pendragons led a revolution against the Roman Empire in Britannia and ultimately won their freedom. The Pendragons sired a line of great kings and queens that lasted centuries, and Camelot grew into a bustling city and the eventual capital of the Kingdom.

Tragedy struck, however, during the Black Death of the 14th Century. A plague developed through dark alchemy forced the Kingdom to its knees, the result of a vicious revenge scheme. The Lord at the time -- King Arthur Pendragon -- had romanced a sorceress named Morgana when they were both the young apprentices of Merlin. Unfortunately, the poor girl could not conquer her inner darkness and Merlin cast her out. When Arthur refused to follow, she felt betrayed and then vanished into the night. Years later, it was revealed she had been pregnant with Arthur's son, Mordred. She raised the boy to loathe his father, and together they created the Black Death to destroy his Kingdom.

After sickness and death had rotten Camelot inside and out, Arthur sent his pregnant wife, Guinevere, into hiding, guarded by Merlin. Arthur then summoned as much magical energy into his sword Excalibur as he could as Morgana and Mordred descended upon the city with their dark army. He waited until he was surrounded and then released all the pent up energy at once, obliterating himself and Camelot along with his enemies. In the distance, Merlin and Guinevere looked back and saw the bright light of the explosion. In the centuries to come, nearby London grew over the former site of Camelot, becoming the new capital.

Several weeks later, Guinevere began to have complications with her pregnancy, leading Merlin to cast a stasis spell on her to seal her in time until he could find a way to heal her -- his powers had been drained due to the constant curing of Black Death victims. Due to this weakness, he accidentally altered the spell and turned both himself and Guinevere into stone statues. They stood there in that cave for many years before explorers discovered them. Eventually the two statues were separated, and Guinevere found herself in a museum in 1960s America.

In 1998, for unknown reasons, the spell finally faded, and the two statues returned to life. Merlin awakened in a hunter's cabin in Africa with amnesia, and could not remember who he was for a number of years. Guinevere stumbled out of the museum, setting off alarms before collapsing in the parking lot from her pain. Security responded to the alarm, saw the young woman on the ground, and called 911. She was rushed to the hospital, where she gave birth to a baby girl and then passed away. With no way to identify the mother, the child was eventually pasted into foster care.

Shortly after King Arthur's daughter turned eighteen, Merlin revealed himself to her, and explained their origins. He had eventually overcome his amnesia and set out to find Guinevere, his search leading him to her young daughter. Not wanting to interfere with the life she had grown used to, Merlin decided to maintain his distance, keep a watchful eye on her from afar, and approach her only if she displayed signs of magic.

That did come to pass, as Merlin felt her aura growing as she reached adulthood. He knew she needed to be instructed in the proper way to use magic before her aura grew too strong, and now that she had finally reached maturity, he felt it was the best time to reveal himself.

The idea of this RP is that it starts off with Merlin training your character, but eventually develops into a romance. Don't worry, I'm not playing Merlin as an old dude with a long white beard -- he still retains his youthful appearance and has groomed himself to fit in with the modern world.
