Yes, I have often said my wee lil kidlings keep me young!

I am not sure I feel that way today. I know I don't feel young, not by any stretch of the imagination.

I do know that they keep me healthy. Last night, as is our ritual on a nice day, they donned their funky little bike helmets and my son put on his new roller blade/sneakers.

Our "walk" began. I nearly trot behind them as they pump their little legs to go faster and faster on their bikes. I love the brisk walk and am becoming quite addicted to the feeling of finishing our family time with legs and a heart that has had a complete work out.

However, last night, I took the little chits to my we daughter's preschool. There, they were able to bike "full throttle" and be safe in the empty parking lot.

Lil man, then, popped out the wheels on his sneaker/skates. Now, he just started skating this year, so I was running beside him coaching him along. "Bend over a bit." "Use both legs" "Good job!"

Now...the Playground! Argh!

A playground seems a safe and harmless place to be? Right?

Not so when you are 37 years old and revisiting your inner child!

After such a work out and all the good feelings of my lil one's skating success, dear old mom (I do mean OLD) decided to surprise the children by climbing to the top of the tallest slide. I stood their while they chortled and giggled about mom on the slide.

I sat down, hands firmly wrapped around the handles and said, "Watch this !" I let go.

Well, the laws of momentum took effect. No longer a small child, the adult wait and gravity pulled me down the slide so quickly that before I knew it I was at the bottom. My feet hit the sand and I felt every vertebrae in my spine communing together!

*Crack Crack Crack* I hobbled to my feet amidst wild cheers and a standing ovation!

"Do it again mom!"

NOT! OUCH!

But they do keep me young! :) (It is only my body that ages....not my mind.)

~shaking head~

Very brave, very parental, very foolish. Want me to kiss it and make it better? :D

I had a similar reality this past week when playing catcher for a pick up game of kids. It lasted two hours, and even tho I think of myself as fit, I felt it the next day.

As they grow up, you certainly do have the opportunity to relive things. Reliving some things are more painful than others, though. . .

Well, I think my next trip to the playground will include nothing more than building a sand castle or playing trucks....safely on the ground!

Hmmm now there is potential!

What are you doing next weekend? There is a playground half way between here and there!

;)

:) x10

Summer time is sea and fishing and boating time, with the children all who have different agenda. Your post makes me think nostalgically of past years but in anticipation too for this summer, when they will no doubt be fishing in the clubs more than the sea.

But I have one lad young enough to tip me out of dingies and perform the most ungraceful manoeuvres in a boat. Gone are the days when they would plonk themselves down, in nappies, on a bald man's head as he sunbathed, but he is quite capable of getting me down a harbour ladder, but not back up.

Doing well, MissT, no new bumps or bruises have been spotted, but I'm going to be burning the midnight oil at work, I think, to enable the coming holiday weekend to be carefree. I do NOT intend bringing along a laptop or dialing in to "check on" or "work on" things...

Free: I have learned that it isn't the age that enables one to tip a canoe! ;) I, myself have never done so, but know grown men who get a bit clumsy at play.

LK: Take it easy. Take a break and enjoy! I hope the weather is good for you.

Nitsuj: Yes. In many respects, waiting to have children allows me to revisit my youth and at a time when I can appreciate it.

Second chances can be so much fun!

:D

Yes I used to do all that and more. As a wrestling coach of little kids you HAVE to get down there and wrestle with them and workout with them or they want learn and they want work as hard. At 35 yr.s I have decieded to retire and just watch. and don't get me started about back yard tackle football!!!!!

*smirks*

I work with four year olds! The damn chairs are about calf high and a rousing game of Duck Duck Goose could land me in the emergency room!

OH what fun!

:):):)

My four year old Daughter is not near as physicaly demanding as my son is and was when he was that age.
I stopped playing tackle football wtih him when he was 7. he sent me to the Dr. with a shoulder injury and I was trying to tackle him.
Girls are much safer.

You haven't met my 12 yr old son. I can't lift my right arm over my head to this day.

Yes, I'm lucky with my baby girl. She's not a Tom Boy in any sense of the word. All I have to do is push her on the swing and have tea party now and then.

OH, I forgot the part where I was swinging on the swingset!

How do they do it? My stomach turned immediately.
