Yes, I have often said my wee lil kidlings keep me young!
I am not sure I feel that way today. I know I don't feel young, not by any stretch of the imagination.
I do know that they keep me healthy. Last night, as is our ritual on a nice day, they donned their funky little bike helmets and my son put on his new roller blade/sneakers.
Our "walk" began. I nearly trot behind them as they pump their little legs to go faster and faster on their bikes. I love the brisk walk and am becoming quite addicted to the feeling of finishing our family time with legs and a heart that has had a complete work out.
However, last night, I took the little chits to my we daughter's preschool. There, they were able to bike "full throttle" and be safe in the empty parking lot.
Lil man, then, popped out the wheels on his sneaker/skates. Now, he just started skating this year, so I was running beside him coaching him along. "Bend over a bit." "Use both legs" "Good job!"
Now...the Playground! Argh!
A playground seems a safe and harmless place to be? Right?
Not so when you are 37 years old and revisiting your inner child!
After such a work out and all the good feelings of my lil one's skating success, dear old mom (I do mean OLD) decided to surprise the children by climbing to the top of the tallest slide. I stood their while they chortled and giggled about mom on the slide.
I sat down, hands firmly wrapped around the handles and said, "Watch this !" I let go.
Well, the laws of momentum took effect. No longer a small child, the adult wait and gravity pulled me down the slide so quickly that before I knew it I was at the bottom. My feet hit the sand and I felt every vertebrae in my spine communing together!
*Crack Crack Crack* I hobbled to my feet amidst wild cheers and a standing ovation!
"Do it again mom!"
NOT! OUCH!
But they do keep me young!
(It is only my body that ages....not my mind.)
